Just wondering Where's best to sell baby /toddler clothes?
I've tried ebay and market place, not much joy.
It's such a shame because they are in good condition.

I think the problem is that new baby clothes from supermarkets, Primark etc are so cheap and nice for the price that people don't want to buy second hand anymore.

I have the same problem, I list in bundles on Facebay and people want them for next to nothing.

Ducky1900 · 21/07/2020 20:07

I just said this to my friend.
New stuff is so cheap people Don't want second hand anymore unless it's next!

Have you tried putting them into outfits or bundles? I've sold quite a bit recently but supermarket clothes don't tend to sell.

I've just listed in bundles, so I'll give it a while, otherwise it's for the charity shop!

I think there may be somewhere that pays you per KG of clothing. It's not much but something I guess.

There are loads of selling groups for specific brands on Facebook. Some sell better than others. For example John Lewis, Mini Boden, Jojo tend to sell well but Supermarket brands tend not to sell so well so better to list in bundles on eBay.

Russell19 · 21/07/2020 20:39

Make sure in the photos that the clothes can actually be seen, not just a black bag like i see on marketplace so much!

modgepodge · 21/07/2020 21:50

They aren’t running this year but usually NCT nearly new sales - though again, it will only be the top brands which sell well at these. I’d buy second hand Jojo, joules, frugi...but secondhand supermarket stuff probably not.

Ducky1900 · 21/07/2020 21:50

Spent ages this afternoon laying them all our nice and photographing them... 😂 Put them in bundles on ebay so hopefully they will sell.

What are you asking for them? If they're not selling, they're probably too much. I wouldn't pay more than £10 for a bundle, and it has to be quite a big one at that.

Pretty much all of DS's clothes are second hand, although a lot are handmedowns.

Brieminewine · 22/07/2020 12:38

I just ended up taking everything to the charity shop, too much of a faff on!

Ducky1900 · 22/07/2020 12:49

£10 a bundle which I thought was very reasonable!
Bundle included 4-5 trousers and 10 tops, few Rompers and outfits too.

Ill end up taking it to charity shop i think.
We do have a children's centre nearby, I may ask if they have any families that need clothes, id rather they go to someone who needs it.

Maybe wait until corona virus has settled down. I’m all for buying second hand clothes but would avoid it at the moment if I could.

LoisLittsLover · 22/07/2020 12:52

Google sweet pea preloved clothes. They purchase by weight and have different weights dependent on the barns and condition. You can also purchase preloved clothes from them at great value. I don't work for them but have had great service in the past

MaverickDanger · 22/07/2020 12:54

I’m buying second hand baby clothes at the moment, and if I’m honest, bundles put me off. A lot of the time I like one or two things in the bundle but don’t want to pay a tenner to then have to sell on the rest myself.

Ive seen some people on eBay set it up as “build your own bundle” where you can pick which items you want, which would be a happy medium!

BertieBotts · 22/07/2020 13:06

How much are you hoping to get for them? You might be asking too much.

In bundles I'm looking to pay under £2 per item. Preferably around or less than £1 per item. Because I know that there will be things in there I like and things I think are naff and will pass on/charity shop. If you label your bundles so this is clear you may get more takers e.g. "40 item bundle £25". I would also sort according to gender, size and season. "Boys' 20 piece summer bundle 0-3 months" sells much better than a random assortment of clothing. You can also direct people to your neighbouring bundles e.g. if you have a 3-6 month one as well. Add "Perfect for babies due Feb-May" to entice pregnant mums who haven't necessarily thought ahead to the fact their spring baby will be 3 months old in summer.

I find the best for bundles are local FB groups, the smaller the better.

If you have photos of items individually, you may have luck on FB if you say something like "£3 each or £10 for all" - I am prepared to pay a bit more per item if I can pick and choose which items I want. It's also best if I'm local so I can pick up and don't have to add on postage which brings the total cost per item up. Jumble sales, car boots, nearly new sales and so on are usually the best places to sell items indididually - but bear in mind the absolute cheapest price you can get things new for - supermarket prices for example and within multipacks - for example, Asda at the moment in their baby section have:
4x shorts for £9 (so second hand = £2 each)
5x vests for £7 (so second hand = 50p-£1 each)
3x sleepsuits for £11 (so second hand = £2-3 each)
5x t-shirts for £15 (so second hand = £1-2 each)
3x leggings for £9 (second hand = £2 each)

So you can't expect people to pay more than this for second hand things, even if they are Next, unless you are in a Next selling group (in which case, have a look at how other people are pricing things) or have a very exclusive Next item that was sold out immediately and people are fighting over (then ebay it, use the exact title from the Next online listing, and ASAP). If it's character branded or label (adidas etc) then you can safely add £1 or so onto the price, but this tends not to be true for tiny baby stuff, more for toddler 2y+.

For single items ebay used to be alright, but is overloaded now with the exception of those specific sought-after items. I do buy clothing on ebay but I tend to be the only bidder these days and get it for the minimum, whereas 10 years ago when I used to buy it I'd often get into bidding wars and pay up to £3-5 per item.

BertieBotts · 22/07/2020 13:07

Xposted - £10 for that bundle sounds fine. Maybe it's corona putting people off.

mumfeelingguilty · 22/07/2020 13:26

I've been buying bits on eBay but to be honest, if it's second hand then I want it cheap. Probably only a couple of pounds, and by the time you've considered postage that doesn't actually give the seller very much.

I don't mind having non branded things, but I'm definitely at the cheap end of the market.

If you have specific brands then look for a Facebook group for just that brand. I've seen some boutique baby items sell for as much as they cost new despite obvious signs of wear.

If you have space, maybe just bag everything up until baby sales restart next year.

Russell19 · 22/07/2020 13:28

Have you tried an auction format rather than asking for straight £10? If you get a few people interested the bids go up quickly.

Mothbug · 22/07/2020 16:40

Tried to sell some stuff but ended up taking it to a locals women’s refuge and they were so grateful.

Soph88888 · 22/07/2020 17:49

Theres a lady on Instagram who is just about to set up a website for selling bundles of baby clothes. Most of her bundles on instagram sell and ive bought from her before. Babybundleuk

TigerQuoll · 23/07/2020 00:14

It would be so much easier to join your local Buy Nothing group on Facebook. Give away all the clothes that are too small for your kid, and get new ones from other people in the group that are the new size. So much easier than worrying about fees and postage etc. And you meet lovely people in your area. You can do the same for your kid's books, toys, old bike, etc etc.

Viletta · 23/07/2020 01:46

I just got a ton of nice things from eBay. Never go for bundles as I like to pick things and don't want a whole lot of things most of which I don't like. Advertise as combined postage. I got tops and bottoms from next for about 1-3 pounds each, nicer brands for up to £6-10 and paid for postage combined which made it a bargain for me.
