CMPA? Struggling!

Don't really know where to start... bare with me!

LO is 4 weeks old today and I've had issues from day one when feeding her. She is formula fed, at birth she was drinking aptimil and was vomiting quite a lot and always seemed to be gagging to me. Called GP who advised to change milk to anti reflux milk, this made her 100% worse she never kept a feed down and I was in a constant cycle of feeding, vomiting- repeat! We stuck with that milk for around 4 days and I called GP back where I spoke with the nurse, who made me feel terrible. She essentially said - what do you expect your baby is 2 weeks old and you've changed her milk, why did you change it, babies stomachs aren't going to handle a milk change, she can't be vomiting that much as she gained weight at her 5 day check, and I was advised to go back to the original milk.

Since then LO has continued to be a nightmare, every feed she is in agony, her arms and legs are flaying, she's grunting and moaning, it's almost as if she's trying her hardest to drink the milk as fast as she can. After a feed she can cry for up to 2-3 hours, this morning from 7.30-11.30 so I called the GP again and the same nurse called back, we had a discussion and she said they don't like to give new babies medication etc etc- But I stuck to my guns and said I'm not willing for my new born baby to continue in so much pain! She has prescribed gaviscon but I think LO has CMPA.
I really don't have much faith in the GP surgery, I am being made it feel as though I am almost making up her symptoms, today she asked how my mental health was, is this my first baby, 'this is the 4th time you've called'

Her symptoms-
Wheezy breathing, I can hear her at all times, if it isn't a blocked nose/ chesty sound she is making little 'tweety' noises.
Hives/ spots all over her face, especially around her mouth after feeding.
Swollen eyes? I will attach a pic, I don't know if I am being sensitive or if they look swollen.
Green/ grey poo- her pop is almost a khaki colour.
Vomiting and spitting up, she has to sit up after a feed for around an hour. She does seem to get some relief from the pain when she is sat up.
Wind- constantly passing wind, she farts like her dad!
She has decreased how much feed she's taking too she was taking between 4-6oz every 3 hours, we are managing 2oz sometimes 3 every 4 hours. This seems to decrease as her pain has increased!

I am at the point now where I feel like going to the walk in centre with her, I am exhausted and struggling to enjoy my beautiful baby, seeing her in so much pain is just destroying!

There is a great CMPA Facebook page.

Hugs! Im so sorry the nurse made you feel so terrible.

My 5 year old had CMPA as a baby until around 3 years old. Her symptoms were a very angry rash all over her body, itching, vomiting, weight loss, vile nappies and wind. The health visitor helped me get her onto Nutramigen, and her symptoms improved a lot. She still had flaky red skin on her cheeks from eczema and vomiting due to reflux, but it was more manageable.

I'd say ask to put her on it to see how she goes, it really cannot hurt to try. Hope you can get some relieve for both you and your baby girl!

Sounds like CMPA to me, I'm not an expert but have had 2 reflux babies and one CMPA baby. The khaki colour poo, vomiting and decrease feeds are clear signs. Have you tried your health visitor? In my experience they are better than the GP/practice nurse for reflux/allergy in babies. Stand your ground and trust your instincts, reflux/CMPA is a tough time but it does get better Flowers

My son has CMPA. It took me 9 months of arguing with GPS and HVs to get him referred to a paediatrician. I struggled so much with caring for him, seeing him in pain all the time, both of us sleep deprived because of his pain. Every time we gave him a bottle or cuddled him we had to put a towel between us to catch his vomit so we didn't have to keep changing our clothes. I so wanted to cuddle him properly.

Once referred I felt like I was finally being taken seriously. Gaviscon just made him constipated, and moving him onto solids did not make it easier, in fact it made it worse as milk vomit is no where near as bad as food vomit.

We finally saw a paediatrician just before he was 1. We didn't need to swap formula (he was on anti-reflux milk) by that age as we were weaning him off it, but we did need to cut out dairy at first (he got an allergic reaction to it along with the reflux) and then slowly introduce it back into his diet via a milk ladder. By 15months he stopped vomiting, but at 3 he still has terrible wind, we have to limit his dairy, and he still has a delicate stomach - when he is ill, if he gets really upset because he is ill, we have to calm him down and keep him calm or else he will just bring back up any medicine we give him.

Please push back on your GP or talk to your HV. Get your daughter referred to a paediatrician. Get her treated as soon as you can.
