6 year old bedtime wetting help

Hi so my soon to be 6 year old is not dry at night. Not got a problem with this, I know it happens when they're ready. Although about a year ago he was adamant he wanted out of pull ups so tried the waking when we went to bed, it was like I was torturing him so that ended quickly, got a sleep/wet alarm, that clips onto clothing and into pants to detect wet, from a friend which didn't work because he gets so sweaty when he's asleep so it just went off every 2 seconds.... He wasn't having dry nights then so we went back to wearing pull ups and not making a deal out of it.

Fast forward to now.. he's no longer bothered about being out of pull ups at night BUT nearly every night he's taking his pjs off and pull up off and is naked in bed so if I happen to see he's done this when I check on him before I go to sleep I have to get him redressed etc. Problem is if he does this after I've gone to bed he then wees the bed and that's starting to get to me, having to constantly wash duvet/pillows etc.

He just doesn't seem to register enough that he needs a wee. It must register a little as he's now taking his pull up off. I'm pretty certain it's not about him being hot either because he has a fan in his room.

Any tips of what I need to do? TIA

Is he too hot? I would try putting him to bed in just a pull up and with a duvet cover and no duvet. I and my child would be melting in a pull up, pjs and a duvet.

My son was wetting every night at 6 still, he would get really stressed out if I tried to wake him. The only thing that helped was the therapee mat... it was utterly amazing. He was totally dry in about 3 weeks and has stayed dry since! He's now 8. It was brilliant, you got emailed videos, online reward chart and as it's a mat you don't have issues with removing anything. Plus you can adjust sensitivity. They aren't cheap but it was the best investment ever for me at the time. I was washing duvets every single day too (or pull ups but he hated them) xx

We used nappies not pull-ups. Pull ups didn't hold enough.

Can you use a fleece instead of a duvet, esp while it's hot. Much easier to wash and dry.

My son was 7 before he was dry at night so please don't panic. We tried EVERYTHING including medication & bed alarms but none of these helped at all. It just all of a sudden happened. He occasionally has an accident, maybe once a month but it's nearly been a year since he first started to be dry at night so I'll take that.
One thing we did use and I still do is the huggies dry nites bed mat. We pop that under his bed sheet and it just helps to save the mattress for when he does have an accident. When we found these we stopped using pullups just so he could feel the wet from weeing, so then that would trigger him to wake, as the nurses did say that children dont feel wet when they're in pullups.
Is your son a hot sleeper? As that could be why hes stripping off. Or he may be starting to wake after he has wee'd which is a really good sign!
Like I say, dont panic, many children are like this, it's just a subject people almost feel too embarrassed to talk about but it's very normal. Xx

I'm in exactly the same boat OP. Just turned 6 year old still wetting. I've pretty much left it up to this point assuming that he'll get there on his own but the pull ups are really upsetting him. Just started trying a bed wetting alarm (mat version) with 1 dry night so far (in a week). Very frustrating and loads of washing but I'll try to persist. Mat is a bit annoying as it seems to respond to sweat (another sweaty sleeper here) and yet if you put a towel or something over it, it doesn't go off as it's obviously a bit too thick. Also trying to increase day time drinking as that's always been an issue for him.

Oh please don’t stress him out using alarms and so on. He’s so little!
My son wet the bed until age almost 8 then it suddenly stopped.
Make sure your son doesn’t have a big drink in the two hours before bed then just resign yourself to changing sheets for a while
Longer.
I bought M&S quick dry duvet and pillows to help with this.

I had to go the alarm route as pull ups were causing him distress (didn't want cousin sleepovers and he was getting NG very down because of it). I didn't want to go to medication so chose therapee and it helped my son no end. After just a week we started seeing progress and he was so so much happier and really proud of himself. Plus it meant he could go on the school overnight trip (he didn't want to go as he was too scared of wetting the bed). I did the mat in half term so that wake ups at night weren't too disruptive to total hours of sleep my son was getting. I think it depends on your child. Mine was showing no signs of stopping on his own and it was starting to affect him mentally so I made the decision to purchase therapee. So glad I did, it really worked for my son and the explanations given my the doctors and experts you liaise with really helped me understand why he was still wetting, and what to do about it x

@ellsbellls and when I say progress in week one, I mean he went from wetting twice a night to once a couple times, and also waking up when the alarm went. Then the amount of wetting (volume) gradually got less, then he had a couple of totally dry nights, then he just kept going. It took about three weeks to safely say we were nearly there so if you think it might be working for your son, don't get disheartened if it takes a couple weeks to start to see results. Good luck x
