baby sleeping on tummy

hi,

I have a 7 month old DD who has recently started rolling onto her tummy not long after I put her to bed (on her back of course) but I'm panicking a little if its okay to leave her? she sleeps much better like this and if she wakes up can resettle herself if shes on her belly but not if shes on her back where she gets increasingly more upset. can I just leave her now? first time mum and worry a lot!

thanks

I usually roll mine from her front onto her side and leave her like that but a lot of my friends don’t, they just leave them on their front (and they don’t have a rolling baby). My health visitor said it was only okay if 1) I put her initially down on her back and she moved herself to her front and 2) she could roll both ways during the day.

Advice is to put them down in their backs and if they roll themselves over that’s fine.

I have a 10 month old & he started doing that exact thing at around 7 months & has slept on his front ever since! It takes a while to get used to & stop panicking about but if you ring the health visitor or lullaby trust, they'll tell you it's fine at that age and you don't need to keep rolling them back. If you're a worrier (like me!) id just ring anyway so you can hear it from someone else that it's ok & safe- it made me feel a lot better!

thanks - she wakes up if I try to move her over and gets upset. seemed a shame to disrupt her sleep if it wasnt problematic! she can roll both ways as in she has gone front to back before but I can count on one hand how many times. back to front however is every time I put her down lol!

our 4 month old does that. Lullaby trust says that if they can roll on to their tummies they can roll off them and not to worry if they sleep on their front.

BUT.... other half was proper freaked out by it and kept turning him onto his back which woke him every time Angry. In the end we got a second hand snuza alarm on ebay just to give him peace of mind.

I went through this at 5 months and had a few weeks of sleepless nights. There is so much conflicting advice out there as to whether you should turn them back or not. I personally don't (6.5 months now) because she rolls back over anyway and she has the strength to move into different positions if she needs to.

I think if she can confidently roll from front to back, she's ok. and if its an empty crib, no bumpers etc, no loose bedding you are doing everything you can. Mine slept on his front as soon as he could roll over around 5months. We got a monitor with a really good camera so i could see him breathing which helped reassure me. But if they are strong enough to roll over they're ok.
