When did your baby start regularly sleeping through the night?

I mean an 8-10 hour stretch. I know each baby is different but I'm interested as to what the range is Smile

Just over 11 months he started sleeping 12 hours, dropped his 2nd nap at the same time.

Mummyof2girls5and10 · 10/07/2020 23:31

both my girls age 5 and 10 now but were in there own rooms and sleeping through by 6 weeks. I think the trick is putting them in there own room so they aren't being disturbed by your sounds and movements you make during the night

Dc1 18 months ish. Did sleep training several times before that, it was awful. it would work for a few weeks but then she would have a cold or we would stay with family for a few nights and back to square one.

Dc2 4.5 years. Co slept for some of that.

Both around 18 months or so

DD - started sleeping 10 hours a night from 7 weeks never even heard of sleep regressions with her, in hindsight she was an angel 😂
DS who is currently 8 months still wakes 3 times a night ...had one week where he slept 11 hours every night , then 3 months of waking 6-8 times so now at 8 months , 3 wakings doesn't seem as bad 😅 ..oh and they were both formula fed and complete different babies ! DD was a laid back easy dream baby...DS was a colicky nightmare who cried non stop for 3 months and who at 8 months is still a bit difficult

It is not recommended they go in their own room this early. Not sure what the guidance was 10 years ago but definitely not been so for a good few years.

I have a feeling my little darling is going to be one of the 2+ years crew... currently sat in the bathroom which is next to her bedroom, clutching a glass of red wine and wondering if my latest half-arsed attempt at controlled crying has worked.

Lockdownseperation · 11/07/2020 02:56

DD1 - 2.5 years, then DD1 started waking her up
DD2 - she is 1 next week and feeds about 10.30 and 2.30/3 every night.

EnglishGirlApproximately · 11/07/2020 09:20

My eight year old still doesn't manage to sleep through consistently tbh, although slept brilliantly as a baby. It all went wrong when he got too big for a cot Hmm

Mustardbay · 11/07/2020 09:22

Not yet at 2

ButterflyWitch · 11/07/2020 09:23

My babies have never slept through. DS was 4, DD is almost 3 and still wakes although just comes into bed with me and settles quickly.

My0My · 11/07/2020 09:31

DD1 was around 8 weeks and DD2 around 4 months. They are now in their 20s but I kept diaries!

They went into their own room at around 3 months. I can assure you that, years ago, babies went into their own room from a very early age if you wanted them to. No one recommended anything. Having them with you was good for breast feeding convenience but you were not told to. Most info was about avoiding cot deaths not avoiding a cot in the first place.

Merename · 11/07/2020 09:32

First nearly 3yrs, second 9/10 months

exhausted89 · 11/07/2020 10:13

Mine is 11 weeks and it varies. We’ve had some nights where he’s slept through from 10pm until 6am, and other nights where he’ll wake up in the night, at around 2-3am.

Cheesestring84 · 11/07/2020 10:24

He is 4 years old and yet to.

SadSongsAndWaltzes · 11/07/2020 10:27

DD1 was 2.5 years, DD2 is 5 years and we're still waiting.

Max1140 · 11/07/2020 15:11

His first long night sleep was at about 4 months. He started sleeping through consistently from about 6 months.

Sleep training was really important. Getting him into a routine. It’s a lot of effort but it paid off.

Sometimes teething pain will wake him up, but teething powder helps.

Pinkflipflop85 · 11/07/2020 15:28

Still doesn't sleep through. He's 6 next week.

mindutopia · 11/07/2020 16:34

About 2 years with both of them - but first one was sleeping with us. 2nd one does occasionally sleep with us, but maybe only once a week. There is often a period of sleeping through around 3 months, but it's usually very short-lived.

ThatDamnScientist · 11/07/2020 16:40

Dd1 at 6 weeks. Dd2 is 5 and still doesn't sleep through!
