How to train newborn for pram out?

Eshaar · 08/07/2020 18:28

I am a new mom with 2 month old baby. I am trying to take my baby out on carry cot but my baby cries alot whenever i am taking him out. I am not sure what i am doing wrong.

I have a infababy carry cot and as the weather is chill today i covered him with transparent sheet. I placed soft towels to make it comfortable for him. Covered him with his blanket with hanging toys. Am i dressing him wrong?? How to make him enjoy his pram ride?

Some babies just don't like the pram. Lee trying him in it even if it's just waking around the house or garden with him in it

SpillTheTeaa · 08/07/2020 18:30

Meant to say keep

Some babies just don't like prams! Could you clip the carseat on to the pram and take him in that (short trips only) and see if he prefers being upright? Or try a sling?

Lots of babies don't like lying flat in a pram. We carried out baby in a sling until she was old enough to sit in the pushchair. The carrycot was used twice and now gathers dust!

Sorry don't know why it posted twice Blush

Try a sling or carrier

Beebeet · 08/07/2020 19:12

It's not anything you are doing OP, some babies just hate being in a pram. Do you have something other than the carry cot which can recline flat? DS hated the carry cot, but didn't mind the next stage of the travel system which reclined right back so it was still safe, and was even happier when he could sit up in the pram.

Eshaar · 08/07/2020 20:56

I have a car seat that can be clipped but its not flat. Is that ok for a new born (2month) to travel in car seat? Not far though. Just half an hour walk in the park.

My baby was like this too! I had two toddlers walking and the baby’s pram laden with changing bag etc while I carried him in a sling x 😂

BertieBotts · 08/07/2020 21:03

It's OK to put them in the car seat for up to 2 hours at a time at that age. Just be careful he doesn't fall asleep towards the end of your walk as I wouldn't want to push the 2 hour limit so young.

FedUpAtHomeTroels · 08/07/2020 21:14

Mine all hated the carrycot pram, oldest hated the bassinette too, he like to see out. I did the carseat clipped on the frame, then a pushchair that reclined nearly flat, worked great.

FizzingWhizzbee123 · 09/07/2020 17:30

Mine hates the pram for ages. Got a bit better when he was old enough to sit up and watch the world. Got a lot easier once old enough to snack in the pram!!

Try a sling for now.

Sipperskipper · 09/07/2020 17:54

My DD was much more settled with the carseat clipped on. I think she liked it as it was more cosy & confined. We only used the carrycot bit about 3 times as she just cried!

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 09/07/2020 17:56

Mine hates laying down in a pram. Hes nearly 4 months and weve had to do away with the carrycot entirely and move him to the pram bit. I dont sit him up all the way, just enough for him to see the world pass by but also be able to nod off

Letsallscreamatthesistene · 09/07/2020 17:58

Meant to say too, I feel your pain. My son HATES the carseat. He'll cry the entire time hes in it. Its draining because sometimes he HAS to go in it. Ive learnt that everythings a phase when it comes to babies, so im just waiting it out.

BikeRunSki · 09/07/2020 17:58

Try putting a t shirt that you have been wearing in the pram. It will smell of you. That may comfort him.

fedupandlookingforchange · 09/07/2020 18:04

Mine took a bit of training to the pram, I just pushed him out in it twice a day, he was fine by the end of the week and by the end of week two napped reliably in the pram. I had a big pram used it until DS was 11 months.

ZooKeeper19 · 09/07/2020 18:06

@Eshaar try positioning him on his side, maybe he has a bit of an upset tummy in the pram (like being car sick/motion sick).

My one got a snuggly hot blanket (but it was winter) and a dummy helped us with upset tummy. Plus I put him on his side, as when we are walking I can always see him.

Good luck :) I love my pram walks, they are islands of calm at otherwise quite noisy restless days.

crazychemist · 11/07/2020 10:57

Does he have things to look at and distract him? A good view of your face? My DD wouldn’t stay in long at that age, but got used to it after lots of little short trips. She was a bit happier tilted up a bit - I used to put some folded blankets under the head end and she was a bit happier like that, I think she had a better view.

She loves the pram once she had good enough neck strength to sit upright a bit and didn’t need the carry cot, so I’m sure it was the lying flat that she didn’t like.

ErrolTheDragon · 11/07/2020 11:16

Mine much preferred being carried to being pushed. She'd be ok in the pram if she could see me and hear me chatting to her or even singing... I figured me singing 'the animals went in two by two' was better than her squirkling.Grin

Sweetpea1989 · 11/07/2020 20:41

I thought I was the only one with a 4 week
old that hates the pram, glad I’m not so
special 😂
Sling works wonders for us! I put the car seat on the pushchair frame then when she kicks off put her in the sling.

Harrysmummy246 · 11/07/2020 22:03

DS always hated the carrycot. He was much better when it became the seat and he could see out
Also in a carrier a lot
