I didn't and maybe got lucky that he just took to his cot. He went from straight from the next to me crib into his cot. Not sure if because he's in with me maybe that's why he adjusted.
He's 11 months and is still in my room Grin. I'm a wimp and can't move him over to his own room 😂

DS1 only ever napped on me Blush or next to me in my bed when he got bigger. But he was great at sleeping in his own cot at night. We had a next 2 me which we moved into his own bedroom about 8 months so he has the familiarity of that whilst adjusting to a new room, without us there. He hasn't settled well in his cot when we tried prior to this. Around 9 months or so we moved him into his cot bed and he transitioned fine then.

I literally just put my 6 month old in his own room on Monday we have been doing naps in there for about 6 weeks which have been poor time wise. He was in a snuzpod in our room and on his first night I was fully expecting full on tears and for me to end up sleeping on the floor. He surprised us all by going straight to sleep and then sleeping for 11 hours straight. Every night he has done the same thing so far - I think he was more ready than I was. Surprisingly with the bedtime going so well his naps have improved in there aswell.

We moved DS into his own room at 9 months and it was absolutely fine. I'd always planned to do naps in there before but never got round to it so they actually followed after his overnight sleep. The only thing we did do is get him familiar with his room - putting him in the cot when I was having a shower, playing in there with him etc.

According to the NHS they're not supposed to sleep alone until 6m because it's a SIDS risk, so technically you shouldn't do it...

However DD was in her own room as soon as she got over the 4m sleep regression because she was such a noisy sleeper. We had the next-to-me against the bed with the side down, then with the side up and across the room from us, then in her room, and at 7m we put her in the cot (she's tiny).

Maybe try him in the carry cot in his own room first? Then put the carry cot in the big cot? Tbh we always just did it all at once and she didn't care, but i know some babies struggle.

Could you fit a small travel cot in your bedroom if your happy with her in there for now?

I was quite confident mines (who was a great sleeper up until 6months) would settle no problem into her own room but then a regression and anxiety phase meant she ended up in bed with us Wink (I was secretly very pleased with this for more cuddles and so glad as sleep deprivation is torture).

Were currently in the midst of a sleep regression it's a killer isnt it!!

She currently has all her naps on me as she doesnt tend to like to be put down in the day but sleeps fine at night

I will try putting the carry cot in her room at first for abit and see how she gets on

I do play with her in her cot and her bedroom so its not completely unfamiliar to her she just doesnt sleep in there

Thanks for all your help ladies some great advice :) xx
