Potty training help

I'm sure I'm not the first and won't be the last to ask for help with this!
DS is 21 months, his communication is good but not always with words. He has for a long time hidden behind furniture to do a poo and has recently started to grab his nappy and say poo and then stand at his change table to be changed.
I've read this and dry naps are signs of being ready but it just feels like he's too young.
We have a potty in the house that I've got out this afternoon and told him that's where he does his wees and poos etc. Showed him the pirate potty story etc but he doesn't seem interested.
I'm conscious of missing the boat and him getting too attached to his nappy though.
Please help

I should mention I showed him the pirate story then said "do you want to do all your wees and poos in the potty" to which he said yes but since hasnt really seemed interested. He's sat on it a few times but that's all

I highly recommend the book Oh Crap have a read before you decide I hadn't planned on potty training DS early but before his second birthday he had scarlet fever and we had to have his nappy off. I took the opportunity to potty train him at the same time worked a treat he took to it brilliantly. Good luck!

Boys can often take a while to get there with potties. Children in general are mostly ready around 2-3 years old.

No harm at all in introducing the potty and reading to him about it. If you wanted you could try a day of no nappies, but personally, if he can't say in advance that he needs it, he's not ready.

I second the oh crap book. In the mean time take to the toilet with you and say “pant down, sit down” every time you sit on the toilet and “stand up, pants up” every time you sit up. Make sure he can manage to pull his trousers up and down. Take to the loo even when you have a poo and tell sometimes they can be tricky and you just need to wait a bit when having a poo.

We did Oh Crap method at 18 months. I’d use it again when my second comes along.
