How long can baby stay in Baby bouncer per day?

Is there a limit?

We have a Babybjorn bouncer, so its more hammock like and lays back. His head isn't forward like in a car seat, and neither is his back.

Baby is 8 weeks old. He won't be put down on floor more than 5 mins at a time. I try to get him to nap in pram if possible, and otherwise he just wants to be held, walked around or in sling

However its so hot where we are (30 degrees approx), that holding him longer than the time it takes to feed, or int he sling he is just getting super sweaty and all worked up and hot. the bouncer is cooler and calms him down to snooze.

He is probably in it about 3-4 hours per day at the moment. Thats split into maybe 2 1hr naps, and then whilst we eat, shower etc. He naps for another 1 hr ish in pram, and the rest of the time, about 10hrs a day he is being held or in sling still with odd 5-10 mins attempts on playmat.

I didn’t think they are safe for sleeping in.

For “short periods of time” according to Baby Björn:

I think 3-4 hours a day is too much, OP. I have the same bouncer and would use it for 30 mins - 1 hr a day and I removed my baby and lay him flat on his back in a bassinet if he fell asleep whilst in the bouncer. If it helps - have a look at the Chicco 4 in 1 bassinet on wheels. It was such a life saver for us when our DS was little.

Hmm, this is what I feared. But what else should I try?

Today so far:
20 mins whilst I made and ate breakfast and loaded dishwasher. 15 mins when I ate lunch. Then he had an hours nap 2-3pm in bouncer. So he has had just over 1 1/2 hrs so far.

The morning he napped on my bed first thing, then I managed to get him to nap 30 mins in pram 9.30-10am (he was rocked to sleep 20 mins first on me and was hot by this point). By 2pm I had been trying to get him back to sleep for 2hrs with rocking in pram, re feeding and in arms and he was just getting hotter and hotter and angrier, until i put in bouncer and he fell asleep in 2 mins.

I have been basically feeding him since he last woke, he fell asleep on me, and just tried moving him to the pram and he is wide awake again crying, but would have stayed asleep in in bouncer.

Until now I have been happy for him to nap on me or in sling if needed as hes so young, but its just too hot.

It’s really tricky OP - my little one is 2 so I’ve sort of forgotten what those early days are like (soon to be reminded as I’m 33 weeks pg) but other than his evening nap around 7pm I would never try to get him down for naps during the day, I would just let them happen if they happened - usually after a feed. There’s no right or wrong way, that was just my own experience. When he was napping he would either be in his bedside cot or the bassinet downstairs. When he wasn’t he would either be feeding, playing on the activity mat or out for a walk in the pram. I didn’t really use a sling until he was about 3 months old. He was around the same age as your little one when it was really hot in the UK so I would take him out in the pram early-ish and would pop a damp muslin cloth close to him, often just over his little legs to offer some coolness.

@mamasiz - thanks.
He only really uses the pram around the house and garden atm, as we live at the top of a steep hill with no paths, and with lockdown haven't really used it around towns etc..
If we leave our house at the top of hill its all woodland and not suitable for pram so have mainly used sling out and about.
Not in Uk, so temp is 30 ish all summer really.

He has napped in pram twice today so far, and had a kick about a few time son mat without screaming after 2 seconds. So maybes we will need to use it less as time goes on. He's having his first snooze in bouncer today.

When DD was 7/8 weeks she refused to lie on her back and would only sleep on me/in bouncer. I took her to see a cranial osteopath and ever since then she was so much happier on her back. Apparently her diaphragm was twisted so she was really uncomfortable. Maybe worth a go?

@madauntalice - he does have a tight neck and I have an osteo appointment booked for him, but its in 3 weeks time.
