Keeping the poo contained and how to use cloth wipes!

I use ME One size on my one and a half year old DD but recently I've had real problems keeping the poo in the nappy. She's been ill so it has reverted to its liquidy stage (and there I was thinking we were past all that)
I use biodegradable nappy liners from php but I don't really like them and want to go back to the thick ones you can get on a big roll from waitrose. The poo comes out onto the wrap everytime at the moment and I was wondering if I could stop it somehow!
I'm down to my last two wraps already this morning

Also, I was wondering how to use cloth wipes as I bought lots ages ago but have never got the hang of using them. I did just dip them in water and try to get the poo off but they just moved the poo round. Any tips would be much appreciated as I hate buying wipes.

DS1 takes Movicol to loosen his poo's which can make very very runny and I always found paper liners were a nightmare - we use fleece ones which I cut into a large 'T' shape to cover more of the nappy to prevent poo staining. I would say that as long as the wrap stops the poo from leaking I don't think there is much more you can do TBH.

At his worst I just purchased some cheap Diddy Diaper nappies and wraps for DS to see us through.

Are the wipes you are using fleece ones as I found they weren't much cop for wiping bums - I use some lovely cotton ('junior joy' I think) ones aswell as some cheap flannels from Ikea. I just throw in the nappy bucket and wash at 60 with the nappies.

I have been using cloth wipes for ages. I make a solution every day or 2. Get some chamomile tea and hot water a drop of lavender oil, and it your fussy some glycerin (get it from the chemist), then soak wipes. Then I usually squeeze the excess liquid out. Otherwise if you can't be bothered get some pure soap and flake it and dissolve in hot water then soak wipes. I keep mine in a Tupperware container and if I'm going out chuck a couple in a zip lock bag. I find clothe wipes are much better at getting the poo off than the other one and much cheaper! I also use my cloth wipes for messy hands and face.

If shes had runny poos then try some bananas, avocado, white rice, or white bread to firm her up . I use fleece liners for my nappies, which are great.

The Kandoo botty wipe containers are good for keeping cloth wipes in, by the way.

I have a wide selection of wipes as I went a bit crazy shopping during my nappy obsession phase. I must admit that I had problems using the thick fleecy ones rather than my smaller flannel ones.
I did buy some cube things for making up a wipes solution but never got round to using them, I was going to keep them in my old pampers wipes tub that I kep from my Bounty Pack. A zip lock bag is a great idea as I guess a freezer bag would do the same job!

I do use fleece liners (and silk ones from time to time) but I was getting fed up of sluicing them in the toilet. I blame the lazyness on being pregnant again

I can't help much on the nappy front, but as to the wipes; have you tried using toilet tissue to remove the worst of the poo and then wash the bottom with a cloth wipe wrung out in warm water with a splash of baby bath in it?
I used to do this many years ago with my son, always had a loo roll in the changing bag when out, and then used cottonwool pads and baby lotion. (This was in the days before big thick baby wipes!) And at least you know the toilet tissue is flushable, unlike baby wipes.

I can't believe people flush baby wipes! It would play havoc with my old drains so I have a bin specially in the bathroom for them (It was seeing that this morning that got me thinking) I hate using them and really want to stop before baby no.2 come along, I need to force myself to get into the habit. Toilet roll is a good idea, must pack one in my nappy bag.

I second the tissue/loo roll idea for at home. Use it to wipe the worst away, then wipe clean with a wipe you have made wet.

My advice is to wet your wipes using tap water, wring them out and then put them into a cheap lidded sandwich container (I got mine from Asda). I have one container in my nappy storage box which goes under the cot along with nappies and a box of tissues.

I have another container of reusable wipes in my change bag, but I must say, trying to use tissues/loo roll when out and about isn?t so easy as some baby change facilities don?t have toilets to flush it and it gets really manky if you bring it home with you. I tend to just use the wipes by themselves when out. If it?s really bad I will use disposable wipes and just put them in the nappy waste bin provided!

Mum uses toilet roll first and it works, I ever even though of that, just use flannel wipes made from terry offcuts or cheap flannels.

You could use a flannel as a liner for runny poo as it would stick to the terry loops but you could still get it all out in one or rinsing rather than rinsing the whole nappy.

I don't line my nappies at all as the terry nicely picks up poo and stops it escaping, even teething toddler poo lol.

My dd's poo didnt get solid until she was over a year, and we still have runny days at least once a week.
I find the php liners are quite slippery, so liquid poo tends to slide off them.
Regarding the cloth wipes, i use loo roll first and then the wipe to freshen afterwards. I also store mine already wetted in the pampers box, also have one of those travel wipe boxes that i use when out. most places i go have toilets so disposing of loo roll not a problem, but if i am somewhere without a loo i'll put it in a nappy sack until i get home then tip it out and flush it. I must confess that i frequently forget to restock my travel wipe box so often have to buy disposable wipes when i am out!

Thankyou to everyone for giving me the push I needed to start using my reusable wipes!
I've been using them with my babybits from Babykind and they are great! They get the poo off really well and they smell very nice. I have also noticed a big change in DD's skin. She has always been prone to nappy rash and now i'm wondering if it was simply the use of wipes. Her skin has returned to its normal babysoft state and she hasn't had a flare up of nappy rash anywhere near as bad as usual.
I'm going to get myself a spray bottle so I can use these out & about too.

Avent screw top pots ( used with breast pump etc) make good containers for pre damped wipes out and about.
personally I find any wipe apart from terry ones just moves pooh around. terry is the business, fleace is almost as rubbish as disposable wipes. However, disposable wipes that have been washed and then wetted with water seem to work moderatly well... don;t ask me why. I tend to lob all wipes in with nappies and wash, then bin the disposable ones clean.
