Hot weather help

Hi there, I am a brand new first time mum (baby was born 24th June). I know I’m not supposed to be getting much sleep but even when she’s sleeping I can’t as I’m getting sick with worry about her being too hot or too cold. Is there anyone that could give me advice on what to sleep and dress my baby in when the weather is so hot? I’m not very clued up on all the tog business so anything that could help me out would be great.
Thanks in advance

Oh it’s so difficult when the weather is like this! If you have the funds invest in a gro egg thing. Tonight my (older) baby is in a short sleeved vest with a thin muslin sheet.

Agree with previous poster about getting a gro egg, they’re brilliant.

Otherwise, how does the back of your babies neck feel? If it’s clammy or very hot then remove a layer. In this heat my 5 week old is in a light romper and thin muslin sheet, last night he was in just a nappy. Skin to skin is brilliant if you’re really worried as it will regulate babies temperature.

Have a look at gro bags. Have a look on their website and they have a chart of how is best to dress your baby for what temperature. Or if you google 'what should my baby wear to bed' and look on images there will be lots of helpful charts.

Congratulations on your new baby. It so worrying trying to keep them cool / warm in the first couple of months but you soon get into the flow of things.

This was something I found really tricky at first with my DD; gro bags were my saving grace as there’s an easy guide about which gro bag and what to wear based on the temperature in the room. Before then work on the basis that a thin blanket is 1 tog and a thicker one is 2 but if you fold it over the tog doubles and then you can still follow the tog guides.
Most importantly don’t put a hat on baby as then even if they’re a little too hot it can escape from their heads and if you’re worried they’re cold go by their chest temp as arms will often feel cooler anyway

Groegg & grobags all the way. They come with a temperature guide.

My 4 month old was just in nappy and 0.5 tog grobag for the really hot nights this week. His gro-egg was showing 27° in his room 🤦‍♀️ Very little I could do about that though, we had windows open with curtains closed all day.

I used to use the gro bag guide all the time at that stage.

I also remember the advice that if a baby is too cold they will wake up and cry. If it's too hot then it's more dangerous.
