First day of potty training. Two pees & a poo on potty. Now what?

DD is 2 years and a few weeks. I took the potty out for the first time today, left her bottom naked, sat her on the pot in front of the Playhouse Disney TV channel, and told her she would have chocolate for every pee and poo on that pot. So far, we have two pees and a poo. In between, I put the nappy on when we went out for a couple of hours. Now she is running around in the house with her naked bum

Sooo... now what? How do I go from here to not needing nappies outside the house? And at night?

Is it even a good idea to keep putting nappies on her when we go out or should I just let her have a couple of accidents and learn from those?

Sorry, I'm just clueless. No family where we live and the books all say "Wait until they are able to say they are about to go". DD is learning three languages at the same time and it looks unlikely she will be saying anything like that anytime soon...

Cote DA- well done so far!! However unless she can tell you AND hold on till she can get to the potty it's likely it's just lucky timing! Sorry!

A good sign that they're ready is if you notice they've got a dryish nappy when you go to change it & then half an hour later she's had an ENOOOORMOUS wee & it's down round her knees!! That shows she's got the control for a large volume. Unfortunately many mums (me included till it was explained to me) confuse the awareness they get at age 2-ish (ooh mummy wee-wee!) with the ABILITY to control it. The difference in development can be 6mnths to a year later.

She is still very young, don't rush it & don't be afraid to go back to nappies if she's getting distressed by lots of accidents. I would leave night time training till she's well dry in the day. As my Mum said you don't se them crawling through the shcool gates with teir nappy-bag over their shoulder!! Don't be bullied into doing it by other show-off Mums either. There's always SOMEONE who's DC is talking/walking/dry/sleeping through earlier than yours & crowing about it,but it's not a race FGS! enjoy them being small it soon goes I can tell you. (mine now 10 & 12)

Thanks! My only rush is to get nappy training well under way before winter starts. What we call winter down here, anyway Then, I won't be letting her run around bare buttom, so thought it would be harder?

DD does go hours with a dry nappy then do a huge pee. I don't think that is a problem. The challenge is that she doesn't say much (meaningful stuff).

my dd (who is 3 next week) had only just starting to hold it outside till we find a place for her to have a wee. She had a bare bum for weeks in the house but i make sure she had her pullups on outside (She still have a nappy on for naps/bedtime). Then i decide to go cold turkey and wear knickers outside...she had been fine ever since...(had a handful of accidents at the beginning)..(i do put a nappy on in the car if we driving for a few hours non-stop).

Good luck and you either carry on what ya doing or go completely cold turkey - meaning no nappy on in or outside at all apart from naps/bedtime.

Piddle pad - one for my DD's pram and one for the car seat
