Paddling pool for 2 month old

Hello,
I was wondering if it is safe for my 2 month old to go in a paddling pool, I would only fill it up a little bit just to cover the surface with 5cm deep of water and I would be sitting in the pool holding her. I am also going to fill it up using the correct temperature water from the house tap and she would only be in it for 10 minutes at a time and I would only put her in it on a very hot day and she would have a swimming nappy on. The paddling pool is new. I have a sun shade canopy so she wouldn't be in direct sunlight.

The thing is she hasn't yet had her vaccinations yet so i'm a bit worried that this is not ok. Im a first time mum and not sure if this is ok. I just want to be able to cool her down on hot days thank you so much in advance xx

It's no different to having a bath :) fill it up with a jug rather than a garden hose and you'll be fine.

Does she enjoy being in the bath? I'm not sure how much enjoyment she will get from a pool.

Why not just use a washing up bowl in garden instead. Easier to fill and move.

DSlived bring in water as a baby. He was born in the autumn, so he didn’t go in a paddling pool until he was nearly a year old, but I took him swimming the day after his first vaccinations.

I think using fresh tap water in a new pool should be safe enough, but I’d only go to the effort if she likes being in water.

Obviously both baby and pool will be slippery so be careful.

Thank you so much, she loves the water she started smiling recently and she constantly smiles in the water x

I think it’s a lovely idea and you have thought carefully about all the safety aspects. I hope you both enjoy it

@angel0071987 I was thinking about a washing up bowl but i have got her some bath toys and boats as she loves contrast in shapes and colours so I thought it'd be a good learning experience for her xx

Why don't you just put her in the bath? At 8 weeks old it's not really going to be any sort of learning experience. You will have to make it the same temp as a bath anyway so it just seems a whole load of hassle for not a lot of gain.

You will have to get her in the shade in the garden, and be very careful about her getting too hot or cold as they can't regulate their temps at this age.

She will only be able to be in for a short amount of time so just give her a bath.

Ameliasmummy90 · 22/06/2020 12:42

@SoupDragon I was thinking the same thing and wasn't sure about the safety aspect of that but i'm going to keep a bundling of towels next to the paddling pool so she can be wrapped in a towel and then ill get my partner who will be dry to lift her out so that she doesn't slip. I am worried about that just incase xx

I really wouldn't bother for a two month old. They'd much sooner be laying in your arms or the pram with their toes in the breeze/ sun.

Drivingdownthe101 · 22/06/2020 12:47

Mine started swimming lessons at 7 weeks Smile. It’s fine, enjoy!

MileyWiley · 22/06/2020 12:47

And I say that as having seven month old whose happy place has always been in water, but at 2 months it really would be too much hassle in trying to keep the water and baby warm enough, not slipping, etc.

SeaToSki · 22/06/2020 12:47

Sounds fine. I had mine in grubby old paddling pools with hose water with their older siblings at that age. You dont need to bother with a swim nappy, some water and fresh air on the nappy area is good for them. If you put a blanket and a towel on the grass next to the pool she can have a naked kick after her ‘swim’.

Tonz · 22/06/2020 12:52

It will be fine. Like a bath outdoors. She may like the change of scenery. If she doesn't like it she will let you know

Hi I have a 5 week old and with this hot weather she is struggling with the heat. We currently have the blinds close with 2 fans on in the living room and it’s still 26c inside… is it safe to hold her in a little paddling pool to try and cool her down ?? Anyone got any recommendations
