13 weeks is early to sleep through. They only have a small tummy and need to feed little and often

TinySleepThief · 17/06/2020 20:42

Babies are not designed to sleep through the night. There is no tips to help them do this because they should be waking up.

mynameiscalypso · 17/06/2020 20:44

It's much much safer for a baby to wake up frequently in the night than not to.

Adjust your expectations, my 1 year old still wakes once or twice a night! I don't think many babies sleep through at 13 weeks, that's still tiny. How often is your baby waking up?

Clevs · 17/06/2020 20:45

They'll do it when they're ready. My son only started sleeping through a week before his second birthday.

JadLi · 17/06/2020 20:59

I think when it comes to babies sleeping through, you're either one of the lucky ones or you're not.

My little one slept through from 10pm till 6/7am from about 10 weeks. (We got lucky!)

Lockdown gave us a great chance to get a solid routine in place for naps & bedtime and it's worked a treat. He's now 8 months and sleeps from 8pm to around 7am.

Just try and stick to a routine and try and teach baby night and day etc.

Ihaveoflate · 17/06/2020 21:07

Did you mean 13 months?!
13 weeks is very young to even be thinking about sleeping through the night, unless you ate exceptionally lucky. As pp said, I think you need to manage your expectations and get a plan together for how you can better cope with broken sleep (getting help from partner, going to bed earlier, napping in day etc.)

summerrain34 · 17/06/2020 21:45

He sleeps from around 9 till half 4 then goes straight back to sleep after a few once's he never seems very hungry and then sleeps till around 8-9 if I'm lucky

he sleeps amazing for that age then. Mine still woke every 3 hours.

That's amazing for 13 weeks!!
Ihaveoflate · 17/06/2020 21:50

I’m not sure how you can be at your ‘wits end’ with that sleep pattern, unless I’m missing something? It sounds amazing and if you’re bottle feeding, you can alternate nights with your partner (if you have one) thus having fully unbroken nights for half the time.

BirdsDoIt · 17/06/2020 21:51

That is amazing, if my third baby sleeps that well when it arrives I will be utterly astonished. My two older children were both more ‘wake every 90 minutes through the night’ until about 9 months old...and didn’t actually start really sleeping through until age 2. Still wake up sometimes.

What exactly are you at your wits end over? That's great sleeping for a 13 week old baby. You are very lucky. What time were you expecting your baby to sleep until in the morning?

rosegoldivy · 17/06/2020 21:52

Wait what?? I would kill for my DD to sleep like that and she's 11months.

She's up 3 or 4 times a night. Every night. Want to swap?

twistwist · 17/06/2020 21:54

9-4 that's 7 hours of sleep? And then back to sleep until 8-9? That's waking ONCE in the night which is very very good for 13 weeks.

NellWilsonsWhiteHair · 17/06/2020 21:54

That is pretty good going for 13 weeks! I’m sorry though, sleep deprivation is crap. It does get better sooner or later, and you will get through until it does. Brew

You do adjust, too. I used to believe I needed 9 solid hours.

Orangedaisy · 17/06/2020 21:55

Agree with everything they all said. Dd1 was up every night multiple times until she was 2 (years), sometimes as often as every hour. DD2 was as bad, and is still up once a night at 3. The poster with the 8 month old that sleeps may well find it doesn’t last......

3rdtimelucky2019 · 17/06/2020 21:56

Mine wakes 90 mins after midnight. Sometimes every 45 mins.

6 months old. Had one 7 hour sleep in 6 months.

All normal.

TinySleepThief · 17/06/2020 21:56

Mines 6 months and I too would happily kill for that amount of sleep. It would be amazing to not have to get up ever 2ish hours.

He once slept the whole night after has jabs and I was expecting him to wake any minute so I still didn't get any sleep. Hmm

Raaaa · 17/06/2020 21:58

I get the wits end thing. The newborn days are exhausting especially if it's your first as the change from no responsibilities to parent is hard. I'd say baby will do it when they're ready, if it's affecting you badly could you go to bed at 9 aswell?

Lockdownseperation · 17/06/2020 22:00

Wait a year, or two or maybe three then they will sleep through the night. There is a good chance after 4 months your little one will wake up more often.

CloeDee · 17/06/2020 22:01

@Ihaveoflate
I was thinking this too, my daughter is 13 weeks and she's been waking up at 2 then 4 then 6 then 8, she had bad colic so started her in colif drops hoping they work soon I'm like a walking zombie! I wish my we girl had this sleeping pattern

mynameiscalypso · 17/06/2020 22:02

I miss the days when DS would wake up at 4 for a quick feed and then go back to sleep for a couple of hours. Now he sleeps through, he wakes up between 5 and 6 and is ready to play. I am not.

firstimemamma · 17/06/2020 22:03

My baby didn't sleep through until 10 months!

Hook yourself up to an IV drip of coffee op as your baby is still very young Wink

Hercwasonaroll · 17/06/2020 22:03

Whaaat I'd love my 6 month old to sleep like that. Get over yourself.
