Newborn sling

I have a two week old DS. Started trying him in the sling today for sleeping to make it easier to spend time with my 3 yo DD. At the moment he sleeps in it but only really for 40 mins and he seems unsettled compared to when he is just snuggled on my lap. We have an ergobaby.

My DD didn't take to the sling and I never persevered as it didn't seem important. But my husband is going back to work in a week, so lap naps while also looking after my daughter won't really work.

Has any one else had a newborn who didn't take to a sling straight away, and did they get more used to it? Any tips for helping him settle better? All my friends say how much their newborns loved slings!

My newborn would only like it when were moving. The moment we sat down he would moan.

He sort of became less and less tolerant of it to be honest. If we slung him with a dummy in his mouth he would take the sling, but he became wise to that and we sort of gave up at 6 weeks.

I had a freerider one, which is just a long piece of stretchy fabric

Can you try a stretchy wrap? You might find he prefers it as they are more wrapped up and snuggled.

Definitely a stretchy wrap or close caboo, I hated an ergo baby

Stretchy wrap here. Had ergo with the first two and it just doesn’t compare. We got a free one with the baby box (Scotland). I’d go for a two way stretch as you don’t have to re-tie after each use. I would wear it all day over a vest and pop baby in and out as required. Great for doing housework and school run.

Which ergo have you got? Some need a newborn insert. Have you got that in so it’s comfy? A stretchy wrap might be better for now.

Stretchy wrap for babies that small. Boba or moby etc. Seems a hassle to learn how to tie it etc but really really worth it.

Has anyone got any really good tips/YouTube videos for helping with tying a stretchy sling? I never really mastered it with my daughter and I was so rubbish at getting her in she was usually screaming by the time she was sorted in there. It kind of put me off them, but it probably was just my technique.

I don’t know how to link

Search Rosie knowles carrying matters on YouTube. There’s loads. She runs my local sling library and is fabulous

Echo the PPs. DS only settled in a stretchy sling for the first 8 weeks, and only if I was stood up. Now he’s older and bigger he’s quite happy in my ergo baby (and my back is happier too!)

Practice helps with the tying. As you become more confident and efficient, baby will be easy to pop in without getting upset

The close caboo is a fab sling and really easy to put on. It's pre-tied with the rings already in place so you just place it over your head and then place baby in. Then another piece just to tie around you and baby to secure. Highly recommend!

Another vote for the close caboo here. We used it exclusively until DS was 3 months as he hated the ergobaby at that point. Now we use either - generally the caboo for pottering or napd in the house and the ergobaby for out and about.
