Ladies, where do you buy toddler clothing to fit over bulky cloth nappies?

Just lately everything seems to be cut for disposables :-(

I just got the next size or two up with my DD. The waist was always baggy but the nappy kept everything up! One handy thing I used for ages was a poppered extender for the best and grows that just have poppers at the crotch. That helped keep the nappy in place too.

Totally agree with the previous poster, vest extenders are very helpful!

I find H&M vests are good - they're broader across the seat and have a little gather around the back of the leg holes, so they "contain" a cloth nappy bottom better. Their trousers seem to have a bit more room in the crotch too - although I can only comment on the boys joggers-style ones.

Zara clothes tend to have baggy bums but they're rather slim in the lower leg so not ideal if your toddler still has cute fat legs. Good for older toddlers with cloth bums though.

I've bought a lot of joggers for my DS, I always thought 'proper trousers' seem a bit uncomfortable and faffy for toddlers, and they fit fine over a bulky nappy. H&M are on the slim side so I'd avoid those but Next are fine.

Oh actually I take that back I think H&M is OK sorry.

I think it's Gap ones that can be skinny but I've forgotten now!

This was years ago when mine were little but some Zara leggings are nice and Next baby girls harem trousers go up to size 2-3- some patterns are suitable for boys too. I had a son who lived in them a lot. They obv weren’t harem on him and his fluffy bum x

Frugi is cut for cloth

ComeOnEileen11 · 15/06/2020 19:27

H and m. They design their kids clothes in Sweden apparently where cloth nappies are far more common.

Frugi - their clothing bring cut for cloth is one of their selling points.
Likewise for kite, Toby tiger and piccalilly.

Those brands are more expensive though.

For getting dirty/nursery/garden/park I use:

Boots. Their bottoms are pretty baggy. DS had some that fell down if he was in s disposable but fit nicely around cloth!

Sainsbury's.

H&M tend to be pretty good, also brands like frugi are designed for cloth nappies

ForeverBubblegum · 15/06/2020 19:30

I just went for the next size up. My babies were both relatively long though. I sometimes had to turn up trouser legs, but not that often.

Curlysusie · 15/06/2020 19:31

Frugi

Another vote for H&M vests. The best vests on my boy are maxomorra, but they are expensive new. They wash brilliantly though so secondhand are fine.

Look for harem style trousers and stretchy jersey fabrics. Avoid leg poppers, as, in my experience, you'll be forever doing them back up. You can still use stretchy jersey leggings in winter even though they tend to be thinner - just pop tights underneath.

northernbelle84 · 15/06/2020 19:44

Sainsbury's definitely have plenty of room round the bum. My average 20m DC is flapping around in 12 -18m Tu trousers.

Overall I've found everything except Next to be generally fine.

Sunshine0620 · 15/06/2020 20:04

Not sure of your price point but look up lovebeebaby on Instagram for gorgeous, handmade cloth bum friendly leggings and rompers 😍

H&M, Frugi, I found ASda ok.

Woodentopper · 15/06/2020 20:46

Thanks ladies, plenty to think about there. H&M seem to be popular :-)

Definitely H&M vests here!

For trousers, he wears a lot of jogging bottoms which are nice and baggy around the butt. I've currently got a couple of tesco pairs of jeans which fit OK, although are a bit prone to builder's bum.

I make a lot for him too using patterns that are specifically for cloth nappies.

Dorobie · 16/06/2020 14:23

Frugi used to be called Cut for Cloth... not sure if they still are?

firstimemamma · 16/06/2020 14:24

These are brilliant for vests op.

I've been using cloth nappies for just over 3 months now and have personally never found a problem with jogging bottoms. Unfortunately I can't recommend a particular brand because almost everything I buy is second hand so it's a real mixture.

Woodentopper · 16/06/2020 16:48

I'm new to using cloth nappies after years of disposables so I hadn't even heard of vest extenders until now.

I made the switch after 18 months of disposables so can relate op! We have a nearly 2 year old and have found that just the one pack of 3 extenders is enough. Smile
