Car seat/buggy recommendations

Hello,

So we are due in a few months and currently looking into getting our oral/car seat. My husband wants one that unclips from the car seat and into the buggy so you don’t have to hoof the baby out all the time, especially if it’s sleeping.

Any recommendations of what is best? Can you still get ones that go up to 12 years old like you can with regular car seats? I can’t decide which one would be best; the long term car seat or the interchangeable car seat - pram.

What did you find easiest? What would you recommend? I’ve looked online but there is a whole world of these things and there is no where near us that sells prams and things that we can go and look at (all the mother cares closed down) and we’re an hour or two away from a decent city.

Thanks in advance.

Baby not here yet but this is what we did:

Decide on the pram we liked - what we needed for terrain/size/types of trips we make. We went for the iCandy Lime as we were looking for a carrycot approved for occasional overnight sleeping and something that wasn’t a tank but could handle the odd countryside walk.

Narrowed down car seat based on what would clip into iCandy Lime, this gave us a shortlist as there were so many options! We then compared the options and in the end went for a Maxicosi Cabriofix.

Again no personal experience yet but PPs on here pointed out to me that it might make sense to get a car seat that works for when they’re small and then reassess later on, rather than spending a huge amount on one that might last for years and years but isn’t great for the kid you get (small/tall/skinny/chunkier!). Also if you plan more than 1 dc you can reuse the smaller one on DC2. And also when you come to buy the next car seat you’re benefiting from additional years of safety research.

Like I say we’re still awaiting baby’s arrival so I can’t say for certain what’s most helpful but that’s what influenced our decision making Smile

It totally depends on your situation, and to some extent your baby (I know that's not helpful!).

We got a travel system and wish I hadn't bothered. My baby woke up the second you lifted out the car seat, so any advantage to that system was lost on us. The carrycot bit never got used because she wouldn't lie flat. I carried her in a sling until she was big enough for the pushchair bit.

With hindsight, I should have got a buggy that can be used from birth and a separate car seat. But hindsight's a wonderful thing!

Sorry, that's totally unhelpful. My only advice is don't spend a fortune. Our only saving grace was the travel system was bought in the sale at less than half price. We don't use it at all now, 11 months on.
