Bedtime for 8 yr old and routine

Hi

Just curious as to what bedtime 8-9yrs old have ?
Since lockdown started I have been working from home. Part time 4 hrs a day.

I've struggled doing school work my work and still running a tidy house! So Im curious to what routines people have.

We usually do some sort of 'work' such as time's tables, reading, itv bitesize and David Williams reading then I let her have free time in afternoon which could be anything from laptop, iPad, computer games etc but she only ever goes on her iPad playing roblox

I struggle to get her to do any educational things whilst I'm trying to work so finding things a bit harder as time goes on and I think she is getting bored

Her bedtime was usually 7 when she was at school and I did more hours but since lockdown it's more 8ish-9 because I guess she's not as stimulated and she doesn't seem tired
Although she is very good and doesn't complain it's me that feels I'm not doing enough with her

I hear other saying they are thriving in school work but I just find it too hard to get everything done
The work the school have set is for too difficult without me sitting with her and being a teacher as she finds it hard to concentrate and looses focus quickly
I've told the school and they've said not to worry and do what I can

Any tips ?

That all sounds fine. That's what we've been doing. In terms of bedtime, I have a 7 year old, but mine heads to bed around 8:30pm most days. This is the same regardless, even when she's in school, as our work hours are such that we don't really get to start cooking dinner until about 6. She has a shower, gets dressed, dh reads to her (I do other dc), and then she plays quietly in her room/listens to an audiobook and then is usually asleep between 9-9:30.

Not so much on the bedtime front, but can your DD's father help with school work? Maybe that would help keep her occupied and enable you to get some work done too.

(I do, of course, realise he may be working too).

My 7yo is asleep shortly after 9. Doesn’t matter imo as long as they have a routine and get enough sleep (around 10.5 hours according to nhs). All those who go to bed earlier must be getting up way too early for me!

For school work we only do a bit of formal work in the morning. But I try to encourage some vaguely educational stuff in the afternoon. Things that they are interested in rather than what the school sets. One child is researching and creating a nature area in the garden. Another is making a game on minecraft then writing the rules. One day I left one with the atlas to plan a road trip across the USA. Or setting up a shop with prices in the kitchen. Find what your dd is interested in and then it won’t feel like work. Take photos and make a scrapbook/ppt of what she has done and share with granny.

Speaking of which, do you have a grandparent or friend who could do a regular call in the afternoon to break things up and “shoW and tell”?

You are doing fine but it is going to be a long summer so finding some extra stuff would probably help.

Thanks everyone.
She's gone to bed at 8 tonight as she was so tired putting her down so think that's the right bedtime for her. She generally sleeps til 7, sometimes 8:30 ish so she gets 11-12hrs in.
I don't live with her dad so not an option
She visits every other Weeknd and she's never done school work there - I do it all and I find it works better. Hes just the fun, late night and take away dad but that's how things are regarding that.

I've printed out the school work - there's so much ! So going to do some of it tomorrow.

With my new job I suppose it gives me the excuse to create a new routine for us
Similar to what we do just more educational things
