Should I wake 7 week old for feeds?

How much sleep should a 7 week old baby be getting during the day (i.e. 7am-7pm) and should I be waking him for feeds if he goes too long? Are babies like adults in that the more they sleep in the day, the less they’ll sleep at night? DS has generally been fairly good at going down for the night, but yesterday after his 10pm feed he wouldn’t settle until about 12.30am, then needed feeding again as usual at 2am. I’m exhausted!

@newmum234 Regardless of what most people will tell you, babies do need quite an specific number of hours of sleep on a 24h period after the newborn stage. At 7 weeks it really doesn't matter that much, but beyond the third month mark I'd absolutely wake her up if she was still asleep by the time she was supposed to wake up (within a 15mins or so margin- I'm not a monster!).
Waking baby up through the day makes sure that you are encouraging that the 12 hour stretch happens at night, if they nap too much during the day the broken sleep drags for much longer.
For some babies (with comic, reflux, developmental delays, premature etc) this is obviously not possible in most cases, but if you have a baby that feeds well and has otherwise no problems I'd encourage a schedule. It can prevent bad habits and problems down the line.
Just my opinion of course, you know your baby best so do what you feel is best!

You dont need to wake a baby for a feed. I give my ds dream feeds and used to 4 hourly round the clock (prem with glucose issues. My HV also said never to let a young baby go more than 4 hours without a feed.
