I know the guidance is 6 months but I feel we keep disturbing her...anyone move their baby before 6 months and did they sleep better or worse??

We moved her at 5 months bc we were definitely disturbing her in the night with bathroom trips etc. She only wakes to feed now, whereas before she'd wake at 5ish bc we got to use the loo And then struggled to get back to sleep.

I felt confident about her head control and We have a very good camera monitor.

Moved at 1 month after much research into SIDS (not just reading safe sleeping guidelines). Went fine.

How old is she?

My DD is over a year and still in with us but that’s just what works for us.

The point of baby sleeping in the same room as you/an adult (for every sleep) is that you do disturb them.

Some research points to some babies being susceptible to breathing pauses during deep sleep, which may be a factor in SUID, this is also why parents are advised to place baby on their back to sleep as tummy sleeping can inhibit rousal cues leading to longer periods of deep sleep and so potentially increased risk of experiencing a breathing pause.

In reality the risk of SUID isn’t diminished to that of an older child/adult until around 18 months, but the risk gradually lessens from 6 months onwards (which is also the time most babies are capable rollers and so able to regularly change position unlike younger babies).

DD was 6 months but both DS were much earlier, as we were disturbing each other. Both are noisy sleepers so I was barely getting any sleep from being alert to every noise. But they slept next door to me with the doors open and we both slept better. Felt a huge sense of relief in doing so honestly. And I was still in an out bfing them (constantly!) and v alert to their noises but not every single little chirrup.

She will be 19 weeks on Sunday, I am also breastfeeding, so it is easier having her in our room still at the minute but I feel like I’m treading on egg shells when we go up to bed, so we don’t disturb her! 🙈

I’m treading on egg shells when we go up to bed, so we don’t disturb her!

I use white noise for exactly this reason. Put it on as part of the bedtime routine, loud enough to mask most ordinary sounds (putting on of pyjamas, creak of floorboards, closing of drawer, DH galumphing about like a herd of sodding elephants). Definitely helps!

We moved at 23 weeks because we were definitely disturbing each other, even with white noise. Dd was miserable because she wasn't getting enough sleep. She now sleeps for 13 hours, still wakes for feeds 2/3 times but she is a different baby. SIDS risk falls after 4 months so we were happy with our choice

Hohohole · 12/06/2020 09:59

Use white noise. I had mine in with me until 20 months. Makes breastfeeding a lot easier.

We moved ours at 2 months on the advice of health visitor as OHs snoring kept waking him then he would only sleep on me to settle.

Went fine. Very happy confident baby now at 4 months. I would reccomend a snuza alarm if worried. We got one on ebay for 40quid. They clip on the nappy so if you do need to pick them up to settle you dont need to turn it off and remember to put it back on like the mat ones!

Lazypuppy · 13/06/2020 08:36

My dd was 4 months when we moved her, and everyone slept a lot better.

Dd only woke once in the night by then for a feed, so i'd just sit in a chair in her room for the 10mins it took to feed her.

Raaaa · 13/06/2020 08:46

Around 6 weeks I think, when she grew out of her Moses basket which was very quick as she was such a big baby.

Hoping87 · 13/06/2020 11:07

@ Lazypuppy was she only feeding once a night before you moved her? X

@Hoping87 yes she dropped to once in the night at about 8 weeks.

She eventually dropped her night feed at 6 months when i stopped breastfeeding anyway
