Handcream for 5 year olds?

My DD has started to get really dry hands and I was wondering whether adult hand cream may be a bit harsh?
We have tried vaseline jelly but she does not like it as it is quite greasy.

I would think the normal handcream would be fine, but you could always buy some 100% natural stuff? I have the one below and it works well

If you want a child specific moisturiser have a look at Childs Farm.

However I’ve used a bunch of different adult moisturisers on my 5 year old DD ‘s hands and none have caused an issue. I’d just stay away from any with anti ageing ingredients or strong perfumes as they could be harsh or irritating. I think we are using Neutrogena at the moment.

We use an Aveeno “baby” cream, my little one loves it.

Does your DD have sensitive skin?

My DD has been using my creams so nice she was 2.5. She sees me put them on and wants to copy.

If you put a small amount on first and wait 24 hours to check for any reactions before using properly, you should be ok.

You would be better off with a decent moisturiser cream rather than handcream. Something like Cetraban or Eperderm.

I put Aveeno baby on my children’s hands. Works well.

Tesco Coco Butter body lotion. £1 a big bottle and I have been using it on my DC since they were about 1.

Try switching the handwash for bar soap, or water down the handwash.

TheTurnOfTheScrew · 11/06/2020 16:38

yy to looking at the soap you use - my 9yo reacts badly to lots of stuff. Bar soap on the whole seems better for her, but it's been trial and error mostly. She uses Epaderm instead of handcream.

If it's recent, it will almost certainly be contact dermatitis from the handwash. Make sure she washes her hands by wetting them first, soaping and then rinsing thoroughly, then dries them on a soft clean towel.
