Thoughts on childcare from DGP

Hi,

I was just wondering what GP do with your children if they provide childcare?

My own parents did very little with us, never took us out and stuck us in front of the TV for most of the day. My own mum especially didn’t appear to be able to cope with small children very well.

Would the lack of stimulation/entertainment bother you? Their house Is also not child friendly!!

Not sure if I am making a mountain out of a mole hill here?

My mum is fantastic with my dd, takes her out on outings, even just long dog walks with the scooter. At her home she has age appropriate activities lined up and rarely switches the tv on. She has much more energy and enthusiasm for these things than me!

But in answer to your question, it would depend how many days - a one off or several days a week? A day in front of the tv as a one off occasionally doesn’t hurt anybody.

If you can afford paid for childcare, do that. If you can't and have to rely on grandparents, you can't grumble too much (although expecting basic levels of safety is expected).

Speaking as a SAHM of nearly 15 years and 4 children - life at home with the kids really isn't all "go go go" in the way it is in childcare. I believe the slower pace of life, consistency and 121 care have a lot more value than the educational activities at a bust nursery.

I'd also suggest that your parents already know (or will soon learn / remember) that getting out the house with little ones makes the day much easier.
