7 week old sore bottom - poos a lot

Any advice welcome - seven week old daughter had had a sore bottom for last week or so - red sores around anus. I change her nappy every two to three hours or when I know it contains poo. I clean with wet cotton wool and dry well, then apply metanium with Vaseline over. The trouble is, she has a couple of changes a day where she just poos constantly! For 15-20 minutes. It’s very wet poo as well, almost a paint consistency although generally her nappies contain the usual breastfed seedy poo. So I am constantly wiping her already sore bottom and struggle to dry it before she sharts again!
Feel like I am getting nowhere with clearing up the rash which must be so sore.

I’ve tried nearly all the nappy creams out there for my dd, and the best I’ve found is weleda calendula nappy cream. It’s amazing and cleared up dd’s awful nappy rash really fast. I’ll sometimes mix it with sudocrem if she’s had a sore bit that’s been bleeding (she’s has an allergy which we’re working on).

Nappy free time could also help, I used to line their cots with towels so could chuck them straight in the wash.

Drapolene! Its never mentioned on these threads and ive no idea why. Its amazing. My son had awful nappy sores and it cleared it up so quickly

Thank you for your helpful advice @muchtootired - I have some of that Weleda cream so will give it a try. We’ve been doing lots of nappy free time and will continue that.
It’s frustrating because I feel like we are getting somewhere with it, then she has one of these wet poo sessions and it’s back to square one! Can’t wait until she poos less Grin

I had a similar situation when DS was around 4 weeks. It was so sore that it was actually bleeding! Every time we thought it was getting better, he would have really runny poops again and we would be back to square 1! What worked for us was having a few days of nappy free time and lots of savlon when his bum was air drying. He was literally naked for 3 whole days (we had a blanket on him so he wouldn't get cold) It was a bit easier at that early stage as all he did was sleep feed and poop!
Bepanthimum is also amazing and its the only thing we use now, having tried lots and lots of other brands, but each baby is different. Find what works for you and stock up! Good Luck

It took us trying a few different creams to sort out DD's sores. She's 5 months' old now; at around 12 weeks after four weeks of awful sores we discovered Sudocrem + baby powder worked for her. I also let her bum air-dry for a bit every time I changed her. She hasn't had any sores in about 8-10 weeks now.

Eventually she'll stop pooing constantly and that helps, too. Keep trying different things until you find something that works for your daughter.
