Experiences of 4 month sleep regression

Hi everyone. My baby is nearly 3 months old, so a few weeks away from this yet.

I read on here that its awful and lasts for ages. Id be interested to hear about peoples experiences of it. The good, the bad and the ugly!

My baby boy is generally a good sleeper, he'll wake at 1am, then 4am for feeds. He's bottle fed, and can self settle if left with a dummy and in a swaddle. I know none of this has a bearing on how the regression might manifest though.

Ours lasted 3 weeks and didn't start until nearly 5 months ( 4 month regression can appear anywhere between 3-6 months ).
DS would wake every hour, take ages to settle back in between. Naps became almost non existent unless they were on me and even then it would be half an hour tops. Wouldn't settle at bedtime for ages and when he did, he'd wake as soon as i put him in his cot. He was overtired and miserable, i was overtired and miserable.

Then one day it just stopped after a particularly bad night when he didn't go to sleep until 1am.

He now naps 3 x a day for at least an hour, not on me but on our bed or in his cot and does 7-7 with a feed at 10.30, feed at 3!

I ask because my sons daytime naps because increasingly shorter and fractious. Hes becomming a bit difficult to put down at night, but once he's down he'll stay down. I thought potentially its beginning.

I'm following this because my baby is 15 weeks old today and I'm not sure if we are experiencing it already. Hes always been a pretty bad sleeper so hard to differentiate between the two. My baby feeds around 4am every morning, it's going on for 5am by the time I put him down and by 6 hes awake. Every single day

I don't remember it being that bad and must have been over relatively quickly because she started sleeping through the week she turned 5 months.

My baby had a couple of illnesses around that time, which disturbed her sleep, so I'm not even sure there was a noticeable sleep regression as such. If anything, it was naps that were affected. She took 45 minute cat naps until she was about 6 months and then they started consolidating naturally.

I honestly would try not to worry (easier said!). It's certainly not inevitable and even if it is, there's no choice but to go with it and do what works to get you through.

We're going through it right now with DD who will be 4 months old this week. It's hard work getting her to nap, she'll only nap for 30 mins and then she's an overtired, crying mess by bedtime and takes up to 2 hours to settle. Then wakes after half an hour again! It can take an hour to settle her after night feeds too.

It's luck of the draw though - my DS showed absolutely no changes in his sleeping pattern at this age.

I think my DD is going through this now. Napping has been about 20-30mins but today we've hardly had any. She's too busy chatting, lifting her feet up, rolling over and then gets frustrated and over tired, much like me! I do so hope it ends soon as I'm struggling to cope sometimes

Following as I’m worried about this too. My daughter feeds twice a night but can generally self settle if she’s not hungry so if she wakes before her feed she’ll go back to sleep but when it’s feed time she’ll keep shouting lol. Absolutely dreading it. X
