How much to pay live-in housekeeper?

We have a live-in housekeeper who cooks, takes my children to school (obviously not now!) and cleans the house. She gets a room and food for free so I was wondering how much you pay your housekeepers?

I give mine a blowjob a couple of times a month and make sure there's always a nice bottle of whiskey in the kitchen. Other than that, poor bastard works for free. Unfortunately he didn't negotiate very well before we got married.

Google says...

In London, a live-in nanny with more than three years of professional experience earns between £300 and £450 net per week. However, this is dependent on family requirements and the nanny’s experience. 24-hour live-in nannies usually receive salaries of over £500 net per week

Literally no one i know has the money to afford a live-in housekeeper. And i work in the city.

LaurieFairyCake · 05/06/2020 23:08

In the Uk?

About £30k plus a year - adverts are much more in The Lady magazine

Goandplay · 05/06/2020 23:13

I can only dream of having such an expense Grin

RaininSummer · 05/06/2020 23:45

I may become one for 30 thou a year and no housing or food costs.

Bellabelles · 05/06/2020 23:55

It depends on location and hours - a good, experienced, live-in housekeeper in a high end London property would be £500 - £600 + net a week. There isn’t a huge difference between live in and live out salaries anymore as fewer candidates want to live in and live in Housekeeper’s can work crazy long hours.

RoomR0613 · 06/06/2020 00:03

HyunJiEun I've read a few of your posts now and genuinely can't work out if you are just on the wind up or just gloriously naive of the reality of how most people live in the UK.

Either way, please stay

GlamGiraffe · 06/06/2020 00:26

Where? What do you want them to do? What is their accommodation like, is it a self contained hlat etc? Will they be driving? What experience foes the person have, what are the hours?
These are what determines the rate.

Megan2018 · 06/06/2020 00:33

I have a friend who lives in, she cooks/cleans, does a bit of childcare and is a groom. Self contained flat onsite, stabling for her horse and use of car while working. She gets £24k for 45 hours a week. Not bad as she has very few outgoings.
This is rural East Mids though, not London.

margoletta · 06/06/2020 00:37

Live out would be about £40k gross, so live in probably about £30 gross? That depends where you live, obviously as accommodation isn't expensive in some areas. That's for a forty hour week

HyunJiEun · 06/06/2020 09:45

@RoomR0613 We only moved to the UK a few months ago so I'm still getting used to things!

@hyunjieun how much would a live in housekeeper cost in Korea? Im just interested in the comparison

HyunJiEun · 06/06/2020 11:06

@Letsallscreamatthesistene I paid my old one about ï¿¡2000 a month but she got everything she needed free of charge. We also paid for her 2 children to go to good schools

@HyunJiEun if no one else has mentioned it there is also a long running kdrama thread in the streamed tv section call Ms Lattes Cyber Cafe where a small but fanatical group of us talk about dramas and all things Korean where you would be welcome and we might be able to help with the cultural differences 😀

SomeoneElseEntirelyNow · 06/06/2020 17:33

@HyunJiEun if you don't mind me asking, what do you do for a living?

Pinkblueberry · 06/06/2020 17:36

How much are you paying them now?

MagnoliaJustice · 07/06/2020 12:42

What salary did the housekeeper negotiate? Surely she must have discussed money at interview.

Ask your friends and neighbours, as you obviously live in an affluent area, or have a look at the salaries offered for similar work on a job website.
