10 m/o refuses to drink water..help!

Ds, 10months is breastfed alongside his solids. He absolutely refuses to be spoon fed apart from porridge and occasionally yoghurt so I’ve had to do BLW all the way. He won’t drink water from a free flowing beaker, from a bottle, or from a munchkin miracle 360 trainer cup. I’ve tried adding flavour (I crushed raspberry and added the juice to it).
What can I do? His poo was a bit dry before bed, he loves fruit and veg so I’ve been trying to give him lots of tomatoes, strawberries, melon, satsumas, cucumber (anything watery!).
I won’t give him “sugar free” drinks because I disagree with artificial sweeteners, and I’d rather he drank plain water rather than use a squash/cordial “with sugar” but what else can I do? I personally just drink plain water and it’s a habit I’d like him to have too.

He is currently having both his top teeth come through the gums (one slightly cutting the other just about ready to) so I’m sure this isn’t helping.

Do you have any adult plastic cups? Your post pretty much exactly describes my daughter. To get her interested in water I started to let her have sips from my cup at mealtimes. Now she will drink a small amount from her own sippy cup but it's been slow.

DS is only 6 months but with all the heat I wanted to get some water into him. I got him a Doidy cup and he drinks from it quite happily. It's an open cup so he pours it on himself a bit but a good proportion goes down the hatch. He's not breastfed, just fickle.

Well done for not taking the sweet drink route. Keep offering water. When you are together, have a glass - not a water bootle - for yourself nearby, a real one, and have a sip yourself and offer a sip. Or when your husband is nearby , cling your glasses as if you were having a toast, an both of you doing. Find a small but robust glass and do the same with him as if it was a game'

Another thing to consider is temperature, Maybe he likes it cooler, so try putting a bottle in the fridge. I have lukewarm tap water. OR add a couple of icu cubes to the water and shake them. Or use an ice pop mould for just plain water, so he can suck ion the ice.

OR try a chamomile or fennel tea, even cooled down.

Consider soups as well.

I hate lukewarm water

Honestly my little boy was exactly the same, he used to at least try then just spat it out before he began ignoring the cup altogether. I just kept leaving the different cups (munchkin straw, munchkin 360, tommee tippee sippy cup) on his high chair and one day he just picked it up and started drinking from it. And that was that. Now he drinks lots of water and from any cup, I think because he was offered so many different types he just isn't fussy now. He was around 11m so definitely just persevere, everyone said to me "one day he will just get it" and it's absolutely true. Just keep offering, don't put pressure on him and when he's ready he'll do it. In the meantime, breastmilk will keep him hydrated but if you're concerned just continue giving lots of fruit and cucumber etc.

DS was a water refuser until just recently (he's 16 months). He'd go all day long not drinking very much at all, then like a switch had been flipped he drinks all the time now 🤷🏼‍♀️ We have an open (doidy) cup for him, which he likes but he'll also try any kind of beaker. He's happy with plain water but also likes it with a tiny bit of lemon or lime in, which might be worth a try

Open cup? Mine's been drinking out of a plastic beaker since 6 months - bit messy but ok if you only half fill it.

Wow! Thanks for all your replies. Glad to hear DS isn’t the only one!
I’ll definitely try the plastic open cup / offering from mine! And I’ll give the cool herbal tea a go - and the cool water thing. So far I’ve actually avoided cold water because breast milk is warm so was sort of hoping he’d accept room temp water but definitely trying all these suggestions! Thank you Smile xxx
