Reusable Nappies

I am thinking quite far ahead as currently pregnant with my first but I am really interested in reusable nappies. I have been reading up on them but would love to hear first hand stories. If I have understood correctly you would remove nappy, change baby into fresh then take the nappy to the bathroom - empty liner into toilet then take nappy back to the nappy bin until it is washed at the end of the day? Any experiences good or bad very much appreciated Grin

I use reusable nappies mostly. I found it so overwhelming to start with so I just bought the Bumgenius ones with the inserts. They're really easy to use - although I know everyone has their favourite brands. I haven't branched out from them so can't help there.

Basically, you take off the nappy, pull out the insert and put it into a nappy bin (I line this with a mesh nappy bag). If it's a poop, you can just remove the liner first and either flush it or put it in the bin like you would a normal dirty nappy. This is easier once they start solids and the poop is solid. I don't even use liners anymore, I just shake the nappy so the poop rolls into the toilet!

Every 2-3 days, throw the used nappies into the wash (you can even leave them in the mesh bin liner bag if you use one). I also use a spoon of Bio-D nappy refresh in each wash to disinfect them. I've never had a problem with nappy rash or anything, and I've never had to bleach/strip the nappies. The bumgenius nappies also dry overnight.

Don't forget to get reusable wipes too Smile

We use the tots bots range here. The easyfit stars daytime and the bamboozles size 1 at night.
They are really easy to use. No need to tip anything away or use liners under 6 months as baby poop is liquid until weaning age and food introduced. We use a fleece liner in night nappy as they have no stay dry layer.

So all in one nappy here daytime, nappy simply on with no liner as has a stay dry layer built in. nappy off and straight into bin lined with mesh bag. Each morning whole mesh bag thrown into machine, no need to remove each item as they come out in wash. We wash on 60 with regular laundry powder. We wash any other baby stuff like muslins, white sleepsuits, cheeky wipes etc in same wash
