Hi everyone.

Just wanting some opinions.

I have a nearly 8 year old and a nearly 2 year old. I'm wanting to maybe put youngest in the bedroom after he turns two in October. I think he's abit too hyper atm and into too many things so wanting to wait till he understands abit more as he's not great at speaking as of yet. My worry is , I have ocd anxiety so I constantly worry that something is going to happen with my kids and I've always been against bunk beds as when I was younger me and my friends was on the top one and it fell right through to the bottom , now obviously it would have to be were the eldest is on the top and youngest on the bottom. That scares me a lot in case it will go through and hurt him or even worse, there's no room for 2 singles or even 1 single and 1 toddler bed which is what the youngest is in now. What's your opinions and what would you do?

I have a 2 & a 7 year old. The safety issue wouldn't concern me at all. There's no way my 2 year old could make it up a ladder. Though he might be able to at 3-4 years. But I can't imagine it wouldn't make for absolute nightmarish bedtimes. Do they both go to sleep easily and at the same time? My two do go into their rooms at the same time, but the 2 year old needs to be in the dark to quiet down and my 7 year old is up reading, rummaging around in drawers, listening to an audiobook, etc. for another extra hour. I couldn't imagine her just going in and being quite because the younger one needed to sleep and I can't imagine him falling asleep with her stomping around her room.

We just didn't put the ladder bit on!! Ds 8 managed to get up but ds 2 no way!

There was probably something wrong with the bed you and your friend fell through . But if you don't want bunk beds do you have space to put two beds at right angles? So get a high bed and a normal single. Put the single underneath the high bed in an L shape. Your toddler would then not be sleeping with his head, and most of his body, under the high bed.

Get a triple bunk bed but don’t put the third layer on - this makes for a shorter bunkbed and you can put down padding so neither child hurts themselves. If you get a bunkbed the 2 yo will definitely want to play or sit with their sibling on the top so best bet is to make it as safe as possible.

Would L shape single beds work? I know you said there's limited space for two singles but if they're tucked into a corner?

Otherwise have a look at kidsfuntimebeds. They have a whole selection of bunks with stairs and the added extra of a stairgate to stop your little one getting up to the top.

Personally I don't think falling through would be a massive issue, my sister and I were in bunkbeds for years and never had an accident. It might just be that the bed you were on was defective

I had two of mine in bunk beds and no harm came to either of them. They often played together in the top bunk, and with their friends as well.

When we moved house and they got their own rooms, we dismantled the bunk and used them as separate beds.

At Christmas my 17yo asked for their bed to be converted into a mid-sleeper using the bunk kit. Their bed is now about 4ft off the ground, giving them a den underneath.

These two wooden beds and the conversion kit are 16y old, and the beds have been in constant use. We've only had to replace the mattresses. My dc are all teens now, all adult sizes, still comfortable and safe in their beds.

I highly recommend Flexa beds for hard-wearing reliable longevity!

Hi everyone! Thanks for your opinions they have helped a lot, for lost of the people saying about the L shaped bed we have wouldn't have the room as the boys have a triple wardrobe built in , also we have seen a bunk bed which has stairs instead of ladders as ds 8 is pretty small so getting on top bunk without ladders wouldn't be ideal he also goes to the toilet in the middle of the night. I think I'm going to do it as it's my only option I think my anxiety makes this a lot worse

We had a high bed for DS1, and put a cot and then a toddler bed under it for DS2. It worked well and lasted until DS2 was about 6. As long as the younger child fits in a smaller than standard bed, it will go underneath a high bed. It's much more flexible.

We also used those step shaped storage units from Ikea to act as stairs.
