What she did you give your baby pasta

Hi,

So my little girl is 6 months old. I’m going for the baby led weaning approach. On the nhs website it says pasta for 6m +. I can’t believe the amount that is on there for 6 months. They can basically eat everything. What age did you give your little ones pasta. A lot of other websites I’m looking at is 7,8 months ? I will add she’s really getting the hang of chewing and is actually quite good at it. I’m just being cautious.
Thanks x

I gave my daughter everything pretty much from 6 months. Apart from the recommended like honey and whole nuts.
Pasta is perfectly fine from 6 months, especially if you're blw.

InDubiousBattle · 31/05/2020 21:07

6 months. I gave my two pretty much everything (minus honey, added salt, choking hazards etc)from 6 months. I vaguely remember buying some ridiculously over priced 'baby pasta' for ds but quickly reverted back to normal pasta!

Megan2018 · 31/05/2020 21:08

My baby had pasta in week 1 of weaning.
With BLW you jyst give them exactly what you have from the start. My little ine had xhilli con carne as her first meal (on about day 4-days 1-3 she had veg of different types).
Just crack on-it’s brilliant fun.
Fusilli is the best shape to give to start, easiest to hold.

Sorry for all the typos, trying to feed and type!

mynameiscalypso · 31/05/2020 21:11

6 months here too; I wanted to introduce a food with gluten in relatively early (history of allergies in both our families) and it seemed an easy one to try with. For BLW, DS prefers longer shapes like penne which I tend to cook quite well. When he used to allow me to spoon fed him, I used orzo a fair bit too to bulk out soups etc.

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 31/05/2020 21:12

From 6 months as well. He got fuck all in his mouth for a good month anyway. He was just rubbing it all over himself/the tray/the floor like a modern day Greek emperor.

PotteringAlong · 31/05/2020 21:13

I’ve got a picture of one of mine at just over 6 months old gnawing on a slice of steak which he sucked the life out of!

Other than honey, everything from 6 months

LisaSimpsonsbff · 31/05/2020 21:15

I gave everything from the start - there's some evidence that it's good to give allergens as early as possible. I'd say it was mostly licked - at best nibbled, at worst thrown on the floor - until around 8 or 9 months, though, when he just suddenly started actually eating.

Greygoose21 · 31/05/2020 21:18

Thankyou everyone.
The pasta will be out tomorrow 😂. Another question if anyone can help. In terms of giving ground nuts ect. How little did you give to make sure there was no reaction ? And is the peanut lip rub still a thing ? My parter is allergic to hazel nuts. The doctor has assured me that just because he has it she might not necessarily but his tongue swells so just worried.
Thanks x

Just a question from a baby novice (I have a 9 week old baby) - why cant you give honey? Is it because its basically sugar?

Megan2018 · 31/05/2020 21:23

www.srnutrition.co.uk/2019/11/introducing-allergens-during-weaning

I loosely followed this for allergens. Not exactly but a useful guide. I did pure BLW so improvised and wasn’t quite as careful.

For nuts I did a teaspoon on toast (nut butters). Lip rub is not recommended

TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 31/05/2020 21:24

No, it's because if the risk of botulism. The bacterial spores can be in the honey and babies digestive systems aren't mature enough to deal with the spores like older kids and adults are. It's honestly very rare, but a very real possibility.

But yes, it's also just pure sugar so we've not really given DS much and he's 20 months now!

Megan2018 · 31/05/2020 21:24

Honey can contain a form of botulism dangerous for babies but not adults.
It’s very rare though and the risk is grossly overstated.

BikeRunSki · 31/05/2020 21:26

@Letsallscreamatthesistene, the issue with honey (apart from the intense sweetness) is that some cheap blended honeys have had traces of botulism.

SqidgeBum · 31/05/2020 21:26

@Letsallscreamatthesistene they recommend you dont give honey before 1 because of a risk of infant botulism from a toxin that can be in honey.

With regards to nuts @Greygoose21 I gave my girl peanut butter and almond butter from 6 months. If you are worried about an allergic reaction just make sure you give it when you are able to take her to A&E pretty easily if necessary, so maybe a weekday for lunch, or during a day both you and DP are home.

Nillynally · 31/05/2020 21:26

My baby loved pasta straight away! I gave her fusilli first because it's easy to grip and swallow down. She literally shovels it in!
We did BLW, she's a year old in 2 weeks and I rarely have to spoon feed her now, it's amazing

soundsystem · 31/05/2020 21:28

6 months here too. My youngest is 8 months now, and eats what we eat (with the usual exceptions). And we eat a lot of pasta! Fusilli seems to be easiest for her to pick up.

PawPatrolMakesMeDrink · 31/05/2020 23:24

I just gave my son peanut butter on a slice of toast to trial nuts.
