Suncream

What sun cream do you use /recommend?

I have 2dc (age 3+1) plus DH and I are pale skinned so we all use the same high factor cream.

I use per instructions and nhs site topping up frequently (more so the kids than us)

We're on our second bottle of cream this week and at average £10 a bottle I've realised I could end up spending a fortune on creams.

My friends have a lovely sunshade in their big garden which is basically a big canvas tied to 3 posts. Looks very "on holiday" as well as giving plenty of shade.

@toominty I've been looking at something similar, is your friends posts really tall and have like a string/rope pinned to the ground like a tent?

Also those who mentioned they use aldi does it stain clothes?

It is quite flat, so doesn't reach down to the ground. Just across in the air and keeps the sun out. But yes, pretty high up - he must be nearly 6ft tall and it is well over his head.

That sort of idea, a sun sail.

This one developed by NHS Dermatologist with profits going to skin charity in Africa.

This one on our faces when we are outside a lot. Expensive but excellent and a pea size amount does face. Many other sun creams irritate my eyes. This doesn't.

@toominty yes that's what I've been looking at, I just don't have anywhere to attach it so would need big poles and currently trying to work out how to fit it without it being blown away.

I suggested it before, as did another poster, UV suits (or tops and tees) offer excellent protection and less chance of missing awkward bits. Much less cream required for the exposed bits.

MiniCooperLover · 31/05/2020 12:30

It needs to have 5*, we use Asda own, it's excellent. About £4 a bottle

Pinkblueberry · 31/05/2020 12:48

Lidl do their own kids suncream - it’s factor 50 and has a high star rating so protection wise no different to other brands. It is a bit more sticky though. I find nivea much easier to apply. But for actual sun protection it doesn’t matter how much you spend, cheap will protect just as much as an expensive one as long as the star rating and spf is the same - to be fair some of the pricey ones have only have a two or three star protection rating so are actually not as good.

Toastypate · 31/05/2020 14:13

Sorry @SeasideArms I saw the suggestion, they have the suits for the pool they are great but I wouldnt buy enough to make it everyday wear so just looking for sunscreen recommendations

One good sun top will save your a fortune in suncream. Next sell them with an SPF50 inbuilt (it fades with washes) for £10/12 a top and they last for ages.

Boots soltan 100% recomend! When I worked in a nursery we would recomend it to parents when they asked! They also have one in their range that stops sand sticking!
