My daughters 5 months & 1 week , exclusively breast fed and I'm trying to hold off as long as possible. But she struggles with sleep and doesnt nap anymore takes hours to fall asleep every night shes also sick quite a bit. I guess I'm sort of hoping that when weaning happens it'll suddenly become much easier but on probably wrong Grin. I know the recommended is 6 months. Is a few weeks early so bad,?

4 months old on the advice of the dietician on his ward where he had a liver transplant.
He had a nasogastric tube for milk so it was to try and get more nutrients in him.

First time at 17 weeks (on the advice of a paediatrician). Internet wasn't really a thing then so I largely winged it on 4 months+ jars. HV was horrified when she discovered my six month old had been happily scoffing milk, cheese and meat Confused

Second time around 21 weeks. The internet and Ella's kitchen recipe books existed then I and got well into baby food making!

For me, weaning was certainly one of my favourite parts of parenting, both boys took to it straight away.

DD1 4.5months but was already sleeping through by 4months so not much of a difference with sleep.
DD2 5months, had 0 impact on sleep and still wakes frequently now at 9 months old.

"At the time I was told it was WHO advice as weaning too early put the third world babies at greater risk of poor hygiene."

I was also told this by a paediatrician 8 years ago.

6 months to the day because I am a foster parent and my LA want us to follow recommendations. I have to say I found weaning at 6 months much easier than weaning my birth children when the guidelines said 4 months, FB has lost his tongue thrust and can move food backwards rather than spit it all out, he has also gone more or less straight on to whatever we're having chopped up finely.

Ds 1 at 4 months (was the guidelines then), Dt I was exclusively bf and struggling with the amount they needed with the backing of the hv I started slowly at 5 months it helped greatly and meant I carried on bf till they were 14 months. I think I was probably less worried as ds1 had been weaned at 4 months I remember a few first time mums absolutely shocked at the bf group I went to.

I offered my first two DC a little bit of baby rice and puréed veg from 5 months. Baby 1 was always a lousy sleeper and remained one. Now at secondary school and cannot settle. Baby 2 was and still is an awesome sleeper. Weaning didn't really change anything. DC3 Did Not Sleep At All 😨 during the teething but went back to reasonable patterns once teething was over.

16 weeks As was the advice back then. I started with baby rice and fruit purees. It all went swimmingly. I'd never heard of BLW back then but used to stick a Sunday lunch on high chair tray and have a fond memory of dd sucking on a Yorkshire pudding. She still loves those and roasties to this day.
