Should I be stopping DS (13months) throwing food around?

Ok, sounds like an odd question, but if I put food on DS's high chair tray in front of him, when he gets bored he drops it off the side.

Rightly or wrongly, up until now I've just ignored this behaviour because I thought it was just a developmental thing whilst he learnt about how things work. Plus, in my own home it's not that much of a big deal.

However, it's not ideal if he does it out and about and I'm wondering if I should be telling him to stop it. I don't want to be confusing him as he might wonder why it's ok one minute and not the next.

Any thoughts?

My DS was a serial food thrower from about 9 months! He's gradually got better on his own and hasn't done it for quite a few weeks now. I did try and ignore but it's not great when you are out and about. At one stage I did try telling him no but it just turned into a game!

i ignored it, although pointedly, so she knew i didn't like it, but i also didn't put too much food on her highchair at the one time so that when it fell it wasn't such a horrifying waste.

Hmmmm... cheers. Maybe I will carry on ignoring it; I tried telling him "no" before just to see what would happen but for some reason he finds it hysterical when I say no, especially if it's accompanied by head shaking. Ah well!

I generally find that when my DS throws food around it means he's bored becauase he's had enough. So as soon as it starts I ask him if he's finished and if he pushes the plate away, I just get him down. I do also gently say: "We don't throw our food, please," just because I'd rather he didn't get the idea that it's the norm! (Though I am aware this makes me sound like something of a clean freak. I really am not.)
