Doing enough with 2 year old?

Looking for opinions. DS is 2 (a few months ago, not as in nearly 3) and not at nursery right now. His nursery is reopening in June, but he is not returning straight away as we also have a new baby.
I'm worried I'm not doing enough with him for his development in comparison to other people's photos that appear on social media.
An outline of typical activities in his day:
Reading (many many times)
Playing in the sand and water tray
A walk to and around the park
Stickers
Playing with his car garage and vehicles
Puzzles
Some crafts - but he has a fairly limited attention span for craft things and gets bored after 10 mins so pretty simple ones.
Garden play - trike, ball, bubbles.
'helping' with my chores.

He isn't really speaking in sentences yet, so I spend a lot of time with him playing, getting him to repeat words, asking him to fetch things etc.

What do you think? What else should I be doing? I don't do science experiments or similar.

Stop looking at social media and do what you feel is right. He's 2!

That sounds perfect to me, and an idyllic childhood! And I say that as a preschool teacher! One of our favourites which is great in this weather is 'painting' a fence or wall with a big paintbrush and a bucket of water. All those stories will be helping develop his language.

That sounds really good to me. Pretty much what I do with my 2.5 year old.

Sounds fab to me.

This is what I do with my almost 2 year old. We also do a bit of baking and I try and do some messy play every so often (slime, cornflour sludge etc). I do find though that when I look for play ideas from instragram and Facebook they can be a bit hit and miss.
I think lots of time outside is really great for them instead. I often take him out to feed the ducks at the local pond or look at the horses in a nearby field.

I can’t really think of what else you would do?

Spam88 · 29/05/2020 14:48

Sounds like you're doing loads, certainly more than me!

Namey32 · 29/05/2020 15:16

@riotlady well some people are doing science experiments, phonics, fancy crafts etc.

Oh aye I’ve been reading mine Tolstoy and teaching her astrophysics 😂

I’m always a bit Hmm at people who are doing elaborate crafts with toddlers, they’re not capable of much more than sticking some leaves on a bit of paper or doing hand prints so what’s the point? Kid probably does 5 minutes worth and then the parent probably has to spend 2 hours finishing it off

Anyway, what you’re doing sounds great!

Screw phonics, my toddler sits in his bedroom and now if he doesnt nap, he sits and reads his books... On his own instead!
