Babysitter/ childminder

Hi all,

Just need some advice.

I go back to work in June and close family friend will look after my baby. She is 9 months.

Would it be okay if I asked her to come to my house instead of us dropping baby off to hers?

It would make life so much easier for me.

I'm thinking of offering £10 an hour. We need her to look after baby from 11am - 6pm. Feed change etc.

Is this a good rate? Or is it less?

Never done this before. Any advice would be much appreciated!

Thank you

I pay my cleaner more than that.
Find out the going rate is or ask her what she is expecting.

I'm not totally sure but I thought you can't pay someone for childcare unless their Ofsted registered? Although not sure how that works with nannies because they don't have to be I don't think?

A childminder looks after dc in their (the cms)home and need to be Ofsted registered. A nanny comes to the dc's home and does not need to be registered. It's really variable by area op, where I am (Yorkshire ) £5-6 an hour is normal for a cm and £8-10 is normal for a nanny. The cm rate is per child and the nanny rate is a flat one per household. Is th is a temporary measure op?

I believe that if they are a childminder and providing child care in their home then they have to be OFSTED registered. If they are a nanny and providing child care in your home then you would need to become their employer to pay their tax/pension contribution etc. So you’d need to factor that in when deciding whether to have them come to you or not - as well as the cost of insurance etc. Hope Nannies don’t have to be OFSTED registered unless they are accepting childcare vouchers I think.

A childminder rate tound here is about £4.00 an hour.

As GailTHEFISh said about nannies too.
