My son had a slight sore bottom, my midwife recommended Sudo cream ( a thin layer ) after using it for 3/4 days we’ve noticed his bottom has got worse, it’s so red !
We’ve tried to air his bottom as much as we can, but he screams it’s horrible.
We’ve got water wipes, he’s fine with the nappies. Could he have had a reaction to the sudocream?
Is there anything else worth using ?
Thank you

My eldest also reacted to metanium, never used it since or needed to. Mine all get on with sudocream so I guess different creams work for different babies. Try a different brand out and see how you get on.

We had this years ago only thing that ever helped was Bepanthen. Best product ever and saved our lives!!

Drapolene! Its magical stuff. We also used it under my sons armpits after he got a bit sore under there. I cant rave about it enough.

Also I just use water and cotton wool. Now my sons a bit older I have some cheeky wipes, but really they're just well marketed flannels and water. I use those 99% of the time but have water wipes as a back up if im not organised enough and have washed the cheeky wipes. Between the water wipes and the drapolene I havent had an issue.

Babies can react to all sorts of things, their skin is so delicate! I would swap to a different nappy cream (we found metanium too drying for our son but others love it) and ditch the wipes. My son used to get a rash whenever a wet wipe went near his bottom!

Helgason's nappy rash cream. Apparently it's a mixture of Friar's balsam and lanolin

I have a 17 week old who has the worst nappy rash for around the first month after birth. Tried "everything." Worth having it assessed for thrush and treating that, but in the end I spoke to a friend who is a doctor on a paediatric ward who said what they do is mix equal parts metanium, vaseline and orabase (can be bought over the counter). It forms a really sticky barrier. Absolute magic.

Health visitor recommended a thin layer of sudacreme and then a thin layer of metanium on top. It worked a treat. Also getting some air to it with nappy off time.

Just for anyone who sudo cream doesn’t work (and it doesn’t for everyone) bepanthen has lanolin - that’s key ingredient it got it for. Lanolin solves all your skin issues related to nipples and baby bottoms !
