Covid Advice for New Parents?

LouisaMusgrove · 21/05/2020 13:47

Could someone let me know what the current advice is for parents with newborns re minimising infection risk?

Should they only be held by their own mothers/fathers and any household members?

Thanks.

I'd say only household members (and medical professionals as necessary).

Currently we're not supposed to be seeing anyone else anyway (except one person, in a park, two metres away) so it sorts itself out in that sense - I suspect it'll be more complicated when lockdown is further lifted. Personally, I want to be especially careful until baby is at least 2 months old - on a purely practical level, if there's any prospect of him being ill I'd rather be was at least old enough to be given Calpol.

Well, you aren’t allowed anyone to your house nor the hospital so yes, it will only be you holding your baby (or anyone else in your home obvs). My baby was born the day before lockdown 🤦🏼‍♀️ and hadn’t met a single restive, it’s so shit.

Midwives, doctors & health visitors will probably need to touch baby. Midwives definitely for obvious reasons such as birth & checks to baby. I’ve not seen a HV in person, it was all done by phone but I am a second time parent so haven’t need much support really.

But I have been for a daily walk with my newborn, it’s good for your mental health. And I do go sit & have a chat to my parents from their garden wall with baba in the car seat so they can ‘see’ her.

I’m not taking any specific precautions really, I go shopping if I need to but usually get deliveries as I’ve always done anyway. Wash my hands loads, socially distance 🤷🏼‍♀️
