Photo for baby passport

My LO would never stay calm when I try to get a photo of him. Leave alone taking him to the office where he can be photographed (plus everything is closed)! But due to some circumstances I need to apply for a baby passport for him and it seems impossible to get a photo. How do I cope?

get someone else to take the photo (from at least 2 metres away), using a proper camera with a long lens

It was a bloody nightmare. I managed to get one of him facing forward (lay him on sofa on white towel) but it got knocked back as the towel crumpled under his head. I contacted the passport office asking if theyd ever tried to keep a newborns head facing upward for any length of time as it cant be done while flattening a towel too. They then accepted the photo.

How old is he? My DD was asleep in hers, and that was accepted no problem. I think they do for small babies.

The criteria are really loose if baby is under a year. Just lie on a white sheet and take photo from above. They don't even need to be looking straight at the camera or have eyes open.

white sheet/blanket on the floor.
take a photo whenever baby is awake and reasonably straight.
took us ages to get the right photo, but in the end we got one of hundreds that was acceptable.

Do you have a phone where you can press down and take tons of photos that way if they move you may get one that's ok from taking hundreds quickly. If there's two of you get one to put baby on sheet while other is photo ready. Then just hold down camera button and hope for best xx

We took the picture with DH's phone camera and then he fixed the background and light in a special program for creating id photos- passport-photo-software.com/ If your LO is younger than 6 months he doesn't have to look at the camera and you can take the picture while he sleeps!

I applied for DD's when she was less than 2 months. It's fine if their eyes are shut although she loves being photographed so she kept hers open! I just lay her on a white towel and took a photo and cropped it down to size myself. When applying online, it does let you know if there are any issues with the photo when yo upload it,but thankfully mine showed that it had 95% chance of being accepted, which it was! I then received her passport in the post about a week later.

DS has his at 10 months, the photo place had him sat on a breakfast bar type tool on front of a white screen with me underneath him holding him. You can replicate with a chair and a bare white wall. The woman taking the photo got his attention very easily with the camera and just took the photo quickly. Well she took about a million in a very short space of time.
