Newborn constipation

Hi everyone

My LO is one month old, and has been having a lot of trouble with constipation. We have tried infacol, sugar water, massaging etc nothing works... earlier I read using some Vaseline on a cotton bud and tickle his bum hole would help him go but it has yet to work.
Anyway, I'm in the bath and my OH comes running up the stairs saying he got LO to go. He said he inserted the tip of a glass pipette for saline water just inside baby's bum and he described it was like "Chernobyl" 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️ 20 baby wipes later and baby is no longer constipated...
My question is, is that okay to do?! I feel weird about it, but as OH said, doctors insert thermometers in there for a temp...
I'm just unsure and would like a little clarity and some opinions. LO has been in so much discomfort with his constipation so I'm glad he is relieved but is that really the right way to go about it?
Thanks!

It worked so I’d say yes! Glass is a bit dodgy though, so wouldn’t use that. There is a contraption called a “windi” that you use in that way to relieve wind!

Anyway. I wouldn’t worry about that! If want to get to the bottom of the constipation though. Can you speak to your midwife or HV?

Is he breastfed? Mine didn't go for 5 days recently, he's not constipated, it's normal for a breastfed baby to go upto 14 days without a poo.

Remember newborns don't poo everyday. My bottle fed baby went about once every 3 days... Then every other day from about 3 months. Breastfeed even less.

I wouldn't use glass!!

Have you spoken to a GP? I would be very cautious about treating constipation that way without talking to a health professional. As others have said newborns have a very variable bowel habit and breast feed babies in particular can goes days between poos. However it could be a sign of other issues so probably worth speaking to a GP if you are concerned.
