Educational games/tv for 2 year old

Hi,

I have a just 2 year old and a newborn. The toddler is watching too much TV at the moment (probably 2-3 hours a day total).

However I’ve resigned myself to the fact that he will be for a couple of months. I’m trying to watch with him and talk about what he is looking at when feeding the baby rather than just putting him in front of it (although admit to doing that too, or nothing would ever get done).

I wondered if anyone has any recommendations for things he could watch that have some educational value? Or I pad games he could play that might be better for his development that endless Blippi (I hate that guy, he loves it 😫).

Any suggestions appreciated.

The "super simple learning" channel on you tube was good for my DD at that age. It's all song based but she learned to count, ABCs and colours etc from it.

Also on app store the Shapes matching game was a favourite. Zoolingo and Wheels on the Bus apps also good
Lots of friends say Ceebeebies is good for learning but my DD has never been keen for some reason

Also might be worth using technology to have other people teach stuff. I find that DD is a lot more receptive to anything grandma says than whatever I say. So perhaps a video call to grandparents while you feed? They could lead a singalong of nursery rhymes, play scavenger hunt games i.e. find something soft etc. This will all burn some time whilst you're stuck under a feeding baby.

God 2 to 3 hours is a lot less than many children on a normal day, let alone at the moment, let alone again with a new born.
I've heard peppa pig is good for speech as they all speak quite clearly but I can't stand her!
My DS loves cbeebies

Hey duggee is not bad and I find less annoying than other shows. Some good apps/games too.

Blippi is pretty annoying but the content is not bad from an educational point of view.

If they like vehicles Katie’s amazing machines will probably be popular.

Andy's Adventures of Cbeebies (whichever type it is a t the moment... It was Animals and Dinosaurs when mine were little)
Octonauts... Most (all?) of the sea creatures are real
Alphablocks- they might not necessarily remember the letters and sounds, but it makes it familiar

Maybe Cosmic Yoga on YouTube.. the moves are simple enough, and the stories are nice

My DD is about the same age and I don't have any useful advice but my God she is easily watching more TV than that on the days she's not in nursery and I don't have a newborn to look after! Shock

My lo likes mr tumble and sesame street at the moment (load them up on youtube on the tv).

My 2 year old loves the Bimi Boo apps. Downloaded the free samples first as some are better than others. We find the ones which are just 15 games the best. They’re challenging but simple enough that he can do them himself. It’s mostly sorting by colour, size, pattern, shape, category etc, basic counting up to 3, simple puzzles etc. Makes me feel slightly better that he’s interacting with a screen rather than staring passively at it 🙄 our screen time has also rocketed trying to juggle toddler and work!
