Help me think of a story

I read to my 7 year old DS usually every night, we get books from the library but as it's shut we have run out of books,

One night I sat next to him and made a story up out of the blue about a boy that wanted to go in the army but he wasn't old enough yet and he absolutely loved it,
So much though, that he's asking every night if I can make another story up and I can't think of anything 😂

I would be very grateful if anyone could give me a brief storyline that I could follow to make it easier for us, we love story time but it's becoming tricky to say the least,

He loves anything to do with army, gaming, any typical boy things really,

Thank you ☺️

Gosh that's a tough one! Maybe link it into little stories where the boy is learning skills to make him ready for the army. For example learning to make a campfire, learning to do monkey bars without falling, learning to make his bed Haha
See what army/air cadets do and link it to that somehow. The stories can all link up and the boy can end up going to the army or not, it doesn't matter. What matters is he learned skills even though they were hard and sometimes he didn't like them.

Why don't you steal some story ideas from classics but change the details. So army boy could be Goldilocks for example but instead of bears and porridge it could be lions and chips. (Just a silly example off the top of my head and you can probably think of more age appropriate links).

Or make up new adventures for this army boy: parachuting, submarine adventures, scuba diving etc

Take some well known sayings, make up a story around it, e.g ' too many cooks spoil the broth '. Include some fun events and a moral which proves the saying correct. Then move to the next saying which contridicts ' Many hands make light work ' and so on. It's fun and gets kids thinking.

Making up stories is always a fun part of my day lol

I used to do it on a “Give me three things” basis. ie they need to tell you some things and you craft them into a short story. That’s always fun as they get a story about what they want. Boy, Dragon, Arrow. For example. And you can take it in turns to do a bit of the story. Perhaps not at bedtime or that’ll waken the wee buggers up with excitement right enough! Grin
