8 month old waking 2 hourly still

My DS is 8 months and has never slept through, since his 4 month sleep regression hes been waking every 2 hours in the night. I breastfeed him back to sleep and most of the time he does have a good feed. He rarely self settles and mostly needs us to cuddle or rock him to sleep.

When I have tried to just give him dummy or a cuddle in the night to get him back to sleep he is awake 20 minutes later so I just boob him as it seems like the only way to get a couple hours sleep in one stretch.

He is on 3 meals a day and is over the 95th percentile line so may just be a hungry boy?

Has anyone has similar babies who just managed to start sleeping longer stretches as they got older or do I need to change something?

We’re same as you. Baby is 7 months old but also in top percentile - a proper chunker 🥰
When he wakes I don’t feed him all the time now. I’ve managed to cut it down to about 3, with the first being around midnight. Other times I find he has got used to just having a cuddle and not feeding each time. I’m hoping this is a good step forward and that one day he’ll be ready to sleep for a longer stint.
I know that I’m his sleep association and so he doesn’t know how to fall asleep with bing fed or held, but I don’t want him to cry!
He starts the night in his cot but then co-sleeps with me x

Yes. I am expecting to take a couple of years like with my first.
No expectations make for a happier me.

Mine was the same
He's still not sleeping through, but much longer stretches now since about 9/10 months.
I now have a rule that if he wakes before 3am I send hubby. If he won't settle or wakes shortly after then I will feed him as he may be a bit thirsty. He gets upset when it's DH and not me, but quickly settles.

Do you have a white noise app? We have one on an old phone and have it playing all night. It really helps him to settle and stay asleep!

We don't have a white noise app but I should try one out and see if it works as have toyed with the idea of buying a white noise toy like ewan the dream sheep or myhummy. If not its nice to see others going through the same thing as I always see threads on mumsnet with magic babies sleeping through on their own already Hmm

Urghh i feel your pain. We had a lot of this post-sleep-regression and in the end we had to have a war council! What we ended up doing deciding that if baby slept for less than 3 (or 4, sometimes) hours, DH would go in and settle her with a cuddle, and I'd only feed her if we thought she was actually hungry. This was really helpful in getting her used to sleeping without boob, too, and after a few weeks she was only waking when she was actually hungry, and a few weeks after that she was self settling without feeding to sleep.

Thats good you managed to fix it! I havnt been using DH in the night as he works a physical job but if I get desperate I may need to enlist him and get him to try and settle without boobs then Smile

I don’t use DH either - my little one is hysterical if it’s not me soothing and settling him 😣

My DD was like this. We moved her to her own room at 7 months. Thursday night with us she was up every two hours, Friday night in her own cot she slept 11 hours. I obviously didn't as was convinced something was wrong. Grin After that she slept through maybe 4 nights out of 7, and if she was up it was only once or twice. A real step change.

Obviously we got insanely lucky, I've plenty of friends who didn't. But I always share just in case you do too!

Don't get a white noise toy! They eat batteries!!!!! And they turn off after a set period of time and you want the white noise on all the time whilst they sleep.
You can even just use YouTube, there are 12 hours of white noise with a black screen

Dumbie · 16/05/2020 12:25

The stupid sheep got dragged out for both children, but nothing beats an app or YouTube.
You can get plug in white noise machines too

fuuuuuuck · 16/05/2020 14:42

It's probably a habitual thing as knows the result is the boob!
The dummy falling out doesn't help either

You've got to at some point just rip the plaster off they say! He's certainly not going to waste away
