What's the best juice for little ones? Trying to avoid sugar and additive overload

Dd likes sparkling water and apple juice. Waters it down a bit so not so bad for her teeth.

OnlyJudyCanJudgeMe · 12/05/2020 10:12

They don’t need juice. Water & milk suffice.

AllTheCakes · 12/05/2020 10:21

They don’t need juice at that age. If they don’t know if exists they won’t ask for it!

Just water here too.

Pinkblueberry · 12/05/2020 16:01

I’ve never done squash or just pure juice - water or water with a splash of pure apple or orange (tastes crap to me, I love pure juice but DS knows no different Grin)

doadeer · 12/05/2020 16:40

I sometimes juice a fresh orange and add a little water but don't bother with juice regularly

Charlottejade89 · 17/05/2020 10:39

I do a small part orange juice with water or a tiny bit of squash with water, literally the tiniest dribble

firstimemamma · 17/05/2020 10:46

My toddler very occasionally has some fresh orange juice (once a week or less), other than that he just has milk or water unless we're at a restaurant / party etc.

redtulip12 · 17/05/2020 10:52

Toddlers should only have milk or water. Fruit juices and sparkling water are acidic and will soften tooth enamel. If you do give these don't brush their teeth for at least an hour after drinking.

NameChange30 · 17/05/2020 10:56

We sometimes let DS have one of the Fruit Shoot "Juiced" drinks which are basically just fruit juice and water.

It's a treat though and not every day.

Cait73 · 17/05/2020 13:48

Yes I was thinking as a treat but he doesn't need it it's only us that want to treat them they don't know any different, I've talked myself out of the whole juice thing lol

"it's only us that want to treat them they don't know any different"

Well in lockdown when they're home with you, they don't know any different, no. But try taking your 2yo to play groups, play dates, cafes and restaurants without giving them a juice from time to time... when the other kids are having them, DS wants one. That won't be a problem for a while longer yet, though Sad

Selfsettling3 · 17/05/2020 15:55

For a while we got away with giving DD1 tiger juice (Water) out and about.

Cait73 · 17/05/2020 17:48

He's only 16 months old so doesn't (yet) go to parties where there's juice, his parents want him raised vegetarian so I'm quite used to guiding him away from things he can't have though, he doesn't seem to mind....yet!!
