Present for 4 year old girl

My friend has just had a new baby. I'm sending the family some presents and I would like to send her older daughter a little something too. She will turn 4 in the summer and I would like to send something along the lines of a toy that wouldn't take up loads of space or need a lot of involvement from her parents I.e. something the parents can use to entertain their daughter while they concentrate on the newborn. I've only got a small budget - around £15. Does anyone have any ideas?

Usborne do some lovely activity books. Doll stickers are great, where you dress up the figures. Or they have finger stamp books. Lots of wipe clean activity book and tins. They keep my 4 y o happy!

Melissa and Doug make some gorgeous wooden bead sets. Their reusable sticker pads are also excellent.
Floor puzzles are great for that age. I’d recommend the Galt ones.
Any of the Playdoh Kitchen Creations range.
The Chad Valley marble run is £15. It’s good quality and you get loads of pieces.

Ummm thinking back here:
Some flower seeds and little gardening tools
My daughter had a dreadful "My little pony" set which she adored and kept in a special case and played imaginery games for hours.
A tea set
If not linked to netflix etc, what about DVD?
I feel a bit reticent to say this (because of social imprinting) but maybe on ebay you can get if she doesnt have one, a doll, pram, clothes as may keep her occupied. Personally, I'd avoid a weeing one as the mess and clearing up you get involved in on top of newborn!

Can you take her out for a special trip out every month or so?

Must say, think doing lots with 4 year old will be v important esp with a newborn so she doesnt feel left out.

The toy that gets used repeatedly by my almost 4 year old is a set of lacing cards. Like this:

They keep her occupied for ages.

A magnetic drawing board. You draw on it with a magnetic pen then you 'wipe' it by running a slider across. It's no mess, keeps 4 year olds occupied and its good for teaching them how to write letters and numbers.

We got our DD of a similar age a mermaid light up Barbie when baby 2 arrived. Still gets played with everyday nearly a year later.
