Or am I just being nostalgic for the days of buying a £30 pair of Clark's classic with lights that go off when you run in them???

His feet keep growing damn it... Winkwhat do people normally spend? Obviously it's branded trainer and I can see that there a lots even more expensive but... Is £80 reasonable??

My son has fancy Nike’s that were £130 in jd sports I said no no way I could afford it, Moaning about it at work someone said if you have a blue light card you can get 20/30% off so I checked and sure enough I got 30% off them and he chipped in These were for school then school shut the following week so he’s wearing them round the house and an odd walk but his old ones lasted a year or so and sturdy.
I miss the clarks cheapos too compared to teenage shoes

DS11 always gets trainers toward his birthday and Christmas as he always wants what his friends have. Last pairs were £130 and £90. However he literally has trainers (usually 2 pairs), indoor footy boots, outdoor footy boots and school shoes... Oh and wellys. He doesn't ask for a lot so we don't mind really. He also takes care of his clothes, coats and shoes so I know they last until he outgrows them.

In fairness I've just paid bloody £32 for DS14mnths Clarks ones

We use sports direct, so get adidas, nike etc, but around £35-£40 a pair. They go from size 7 to 12 so both boys happy

I wouldn’t, unless it was for a birthday or Christmas. Or he has to stump up a good proportion of the money himself. Or perhaps assign him a clothes/entertainment budget for the year, go through it with him, and make it clear that he can buy what he likes from that pot, but that is the only money available and there will be no topping it up.

My 13 year old wears £80 that I managed to get half price on Nike.com

cheeseycracker · 10/05/2020 22:04

Yes seems pretty standard I'm afraid.

Luckily for me a family member is sponsored by Nike so we get trainers for the kids for free thank goodness.
Expensive trainers and primark clothes Wink

My DS (13) will only wear black Adidas. His feet have grown again so he's now size 10 Shock He picked a new pair today for £34 (inc discount code) direct from the Adidas website. He's not massively interested in fashion or following trends though (yet), which I'm grateful for.

fairynick · 10/05/2020 22:15

My DP still resents his parents for not buying him decent trainers. Money wasn’t an issue to them they just didn’t want to pay Nike prices. He has horrible memories of pulling a sickie on own clothes day because his trainers were Slazenger and Umbro and it wasn’t worth the embarrassment.

woodhill · 10/05/2020 22:21

Fairy Can't say I blame his dps tbh. Perhaps they wanted to spend their hard earned cash on other things.

EveryLifeHasASoundtrack · 10/05/2020 23:11

Perhaps they wanted to spend their hard earned cash on other things.

More important than their children, when the poster said money wasn’t an issue. Hmm

AldiAisleOfCrap · 10/05/2020 23:13

I just spent £100 on Nike Air VaporMax for dd15 , decent trainers are expensive!

maxinesmith · 12/05/2020 05:04

I would maybe shop around to see if you can get a similar pair from the same brand for cheaper. However that seems to be how much things cost nowadays.

ChippyDucks150 · 12/05/2020 20:16

@anydaynow if you're a Nike member they've got a members only sale on just now, there's decent discounts on trainers.

Oblomov20 · 12/05/2020 20:18

It's standard. I buy cheap pairs from sports direct. But anything quality wise, yep that's the price. Birthday or Xmas present.

TinRoofRusty · 12/05/2020 20:23

Owner of a 15-year-old here, that's pretty standard, and is actually at the lower end of the scale.

Soontobe60 · 12/05/2020 20:25

At that age, I used to give my girls a budget for trainers and if they wanted to spend more they had to use their own money. That way, teens learn the value of things. They also had my old phones when I upgraded, and a clothing budget.

Scbchl · 12/05/2020 20:25

My own nikes were 125.
