Elvie breast pump - worth the money?

So I'm due to have my baby any day now and already have an electric breast pump my husband bought by tommee tippee.

My dilemma is I'll be going back to work at 4 months and work in healthcare. I'll have limited time (or places) to pump but want my baby on breast milk until at least 6 months.

Just wanted to hear if peoples experience with the Elvie breast pump as it seems to be the perfect solution to pump on the go.

Is it bulky? Can people tell when you have it in? Is it loud and how comfortable is it to wear. It's rather expensive but I'm willing to invest if it helps solve my problem just don't want to waste my money.

Any input greatly appreciated Smile

I had it for DC2. It's great. Pretty quiet, easy to use, but I did find the amount of milk I got wasn't so high as my old Medela pump. It wasn't an issue for me as I was pumping occasionally for special events (weddings, hen dos) but I'm not sure if I would have expressed enough to feed a baby exclusively using it. It was a god send for dealing with 2 year old and pumping though.

@motherf88 thanks! How often did you pump? And was it fairly discrete to wear?

I may have no other option as I don't see how I'll be able to stop to pump so some breast milk would definitely be better than none for me.

@motherf88 sorry just saw that you were pumping occasionally.

People can tell that you’re wearing it, unless you’re wearing a very thick and baggy top. It also has a wee power light on it that shines thru clothes. It’s not completely silent but is very quietly.

Gah, quiet

Lilfabet · 10/05/2020 09:26

Pros : much quieter than others, you can potter about with it in, it makes much less washing up, you feel less like a cow at milking time

Cons : leaks if you bend over (although you'll find a whole new way of bending to try to stop it), it's very obvious when you're using it (big jumper or not), it can be temperamental

Overall though I did love mine - without it I'd have given up pumping months before I did

@Didyeaye @Lilfabet

Thanks for your input. Will probably get this or Willow pump which I just found out about. Nothing is perfect but I need a method of pumping on the go so this will have to be it!

I found the Tommee Tippee pump rubbish. I got more milk in a day using a silicone breast pump (nature bond). It catches letdowns on the other breast during feeds. I have a rather large freezer supply from that alone.
