Gassy baby/ milk intolerance???

Hi I'm wondering if any mums out there can help me out???

My baby was born 6 weeks prem. From about 5 weeks onwards she has terrible trouble with her stomach, all to do with feeding. After feeding and between feeds (basically all the time) she is constantly straining and squirming and arching her back. She often cries out in pain as well and this happen every day and most of the day. I'm.assuming she could be a gassy baby but surely it wouldnt cause her that much upset and pain?
The dr has prescribed her hypoallergenic formula similac alimentum ,but she isnt taken to it that well and it smells and tastes absolutely vile. I'm unsure if she is lactose intolerant as she doesnt suffer with diarrhoea, vomiting or nausea it's just her stomach that constantly upsets her. Can anyone suggest anything?
I've tried medication, bicycle legs, warm bath, feeding up etc but nothing works!!!!

It's highly unlikely she has lactose intolerance, it's much more likely that the GO suspects Cow's Milk Protein Allergy (CMPA). There's sone information about it here.

If she's refusing the formula, try adding a couple of drops of vanilla essence to the bottle as it makes it more palatable.

Some other things to try with her are the Tiger in the Tree and sticking her in a nice stretchy wrap and walking around.

The Bliss charity have sone helpful advice here too

It might also be worth asking on the Prem Board in Mumsnet to see if it's a coming thing with babies who were born prematurely Smile

Our 14 wk old baby was like this. We give gripe water after feeds now. We did give after every feed but now only night feeds.

Maybe worth a go as only herbal and helps with gas and digestive issues.
