8 week check and weight

DS is 7 weeks, when health visitor came to do 6 week check he had dropped two centiles (which isn’t surprising as he has reflux and is very sick most days which they were already aware of). He is very alert and has lots of wet nappies but has only pooed once in 11 days.
Had trialled gaviscon between 3-5 weeks which just caused constipation so GP prescribed Omeprazole which pharmacy couldn’t get hold of for 5 days so started yesterday.
Not sure if it’s the same everywhere but they aren’t doing 6 week checks for mum or baby here with the GP. They are doing them both along with immunisations at 8 weeks to ensure limited contact due to current situation- however we still haven’t had a date for this yet. Would it be unreasonable to ask the health visitor to come out and weigh him next week or leave it a bit longer for Omeprazole to kick in? No even sure they would weigh at GP anyway?

Our gp has never seen DS and health visitor hasnt seen DS since he was 8 weeks (18 today). He hasnt been checked at any of his immunisations either. Seems to have ground to a halt in my area which is strange as forth valley hasnt had many cases!

If you can get scales that can weigh in pounds and ounces (my WW ones do) then weigh yourself, then hold LO and weigh again. Deduct your weight and you'll get a rough idea.

It’s hard isn’t it because even the 6 week check it was a student nurse that came out. So I feel like he isn’t really being monitored despite the centile drop and the student nurse just said GP would be doing the 6/8 week check soon so they would see him. Yet I don’t know if it will be anytime soon or if they even have baby scales. I did weigh him yesterday how you suggested and he has gained 1oz in 6 days.

Presumably he is due vaccinations soon, ask then. Not all babies follow a line.

Thats a gain at least! Just keep checking. Im so worried as my son was 5 weeks prem, in neonatal 4 2 weeks and only 4.4lbs but he was 14.2lbs at last check. The boy likes his grub 😂.

My DS has reflux too. He would be sick and eat again until it got painful. He's ok on gaviscon. Still sicky a bit after feeds but I weigh him weekly to make sure there's a gain. Helps to keep me sane. I hope your gp will see him. Mines cancelled his check prelockdown.

Is he breast or formula fed?

@LIZS yes he will be in theory next week but haven’t heard anything about a time and date yet.

@aimzxd how old is he now, that’s brilliant he is gaining so well!! Yup we have the same issue here, feed, sick, gets sleepy, sick, sick in his sleep. Surprisingly he sleeps well despite the fact he is sick, straining, gulping and coughing all the time.

@Spam88 he is breastfed and has one bottle of expressed milk as his last feed before bed as if he feeds from me he gets too sleepy too quickly and just falls asleep and won’t take a proper feed.

Not pooing for a long time can be normal for bf babies (wish I'd managed to produce babies that didn't poo 100 times a day, but alas!), so given he's having plenty of wet nappies I would be concerned about that particular aspect. Perfectly reasonable to ask the HV how and when you should go about getting him weighed given his previous drop though.

He's 18 weeks. Reflux got bad about 8 weeks with him. I find holding him upright for 30mins after a feed helped a lot. As did tilting the next to me crib so his head was higher than his body but he kept slipping down so now sleeps in his babymoov.

I wouldn’t be too concerned about the not pooing if it wasn’t bothering him but he seems to be full of wind and constantly straining like he needs to go but can’t. DC1 was 7 years ago so hard to remember all these little things Smile
We try to keep him upright and has his crib propped up for a few weeks but he can still produce excessive amounts of sick even 4 hours after a feed. Hoping this Omeprazole starts working as I think they refer to a paediatrician if they drop any more than two centiles.
