So my daughter is 4 on the 11th June. I am hoping that restrictions may of eased a little in another 5 weeks but if not how can I make her day special for her? I am heavily pregnant and my due date is the same week. I want to be as organised as I can be.

Hi, my granddaughter turns 4 on the 8th of June and this has been the topic of conversation between my daughter and myself tonight. Presents ordered early incase of delays was no 1. With the possibility of it being a stay at home birthday they included garden toys if the weather is good for an outdoor day. New pool, toys, sand, bowling game, beachball, decorate the garden and have a barbeque etc. If it's raining it will be wake up presents, favourite breakfast and helping bake and decorate her own cake. Followed by face painting, karaoke and dancing and movie of her choice. Face timing family and friends. I've put together a basket for her, mostly activity things, my fairy garden, art stuff and I've ordered insect lore butterfly set to arrive just before her birthday. So my top tips are organise gift early and write down a list of her favourite activitys and do a day plan, at this age they love baking so my daughter has popped cake decorations on her shopping list, flowers etc or you could even add her favourite toy on top, like dinosaur or a barbie theme. Amazon have some good bits. I'll miss my granddaughter on her birthday if life carries on as it is, I was there when she was born but I doubt she will remember this birthday but will have a fab day. I hope your daughter has a fab day x

Oh, other ideas my daughter had where setting up a tent in the living room for a tea party and wearing fancy dress.

Does your DD have any good friends she would like to see over a zoom or FaceTime chat? If so you could plan with the friend’s parents so they could do an activity “together” on screen eg decorating biscuits or a craft of some kind. Works better for that age than chatting. my DD’s friend recently did something like this for her 5th birthday with 4 of them participating in a simple activity via zoom.

We had my DD's birthday in lockdown a few weeks ago. She's a couple of years older, but I think what we did would work for a 4-yo too. We did make a big effort, because she was worried beforehand about it not feeling special and upset about missing out on her party. The day involved lots of nice food which she got to choose (pancakes for breakfast, traditional 'party' food for lunch, etc), far too many presents (spread out over the day), a treasure hunt around the garden that lead to her 'big' present, party games (lots of fun with balloons, pass-the-parcel, pin-the-tail, etc). I also asked parents of school friends to send recorded messages saying happy birthday, which we played her on the day. Oh, and a message from 'Elsa' from Frozen (a local party entertainer). Plus various video chats with grandparents and other family.

We have had a 5 birthday in lockdown.
Got some extra special balloons, did a banner, she was boss on the day ( she loves boss baby), got a pizza and party food
It was probably harder for me than her.

It was my little girls 4th birthday today. I asked to her in advance about what she wanted. Today we have

  • opened presents
  • decorated her cake
  • party lunch, character table cloth, plates and hats
  • party games, pass the parcel, musical “freeze@ as she calls it
  • disco
  • happy birthday messages from friends
  • cinema in the livingroom with popcorn and ticket
  • treasure hunt for a hidden gift in the afternoon
  • her favourite dinner
  • party bags each
  • lots of Video messages from friends

And lots of decorations and balloons too.
