School uniform 101

Suuuuper early to be considering uniforms for September, I know, especially with this coronavirus thing going on (please let there be school in September!). I'm just bored... and curious!

Soooo I never wore a uniform for school and I personally have no experience at all in this. My eldest is starting reception in September and will wear uniform.

  • how many of each do I get? (Girl so skirt included)
  • does your DC take the uniform off when they get home and put on normal clothes? What if you go to the playground afterwards?
  • any extra advice?

Thank you!!

Think about their accident rate (food spillage, paint wiping, toilet disasters) and how often you want to wash.
One of mine was very tidy and competent so one skirt, one jumper and three shirts were fine. The other needed at least 3 changes of clothes each week. Fortunately the jumpers were reasonably good at just being sponge washed of an evening.
Some parents will buy 5 of everything.

I think 3 sets is a good compromise number if yo can wash midweek. I only get my logo jumper/cardigan, rest is generic. Check your uniform list for colours (grey Vs navy skirts, colour of polos etc.) If polo shirts are allowed, go for them over shirts. Pinafores are easier than skirts. Tights- might need to size up. Nearly everything can be bought at the supermarket.

3 of everything in the daily uniform. (Maybe 5 blouses / polo shirts as these are most likely to get full of food / paint). I get my dd a mix of pinafore and skirts.
Just one pe kit.
5 pairs of socks.
Change when they get home.
Many, many bobbles.
Good warm coat for winter. Lighter one for spring / summer.

Get 3 of everything and see how it goes. Most uniform is easy to wash and quick to dry.
We always got home from school and put on our "play clothes " before going out to the park with friends or playing in the house. Kept the uniforms stain free for longer.
