DS will be 2 years 4 months when new baby is born, I have a silver cross pioneer and absolutely love it, so didn't really Want to give it up.
He's 19 months now and really Good at walking, loves it, and will walk for ages... Until he's tired and then he sits down!

Do you think ill get away with a Buggy board by that age?
I have got a joie buggy for him now so I guess if we're going far and I'm with OH or my mum we can just take the 2 buggys/ prams out and have one each?

It depends whether:
You do lots of walking
You do all-day outings where your toddler needs a rest/nap
You can avoid being out when your toddler needs a nap
Your toddler is can be trusted not to run off
You have room in your car

You could always get a baby carrier and start off with your baby in the pushchair but swap to the the carrier when your toddler needs the pushchair.

Also, you could fit your current pushchair with a buggy board instead. Your toddler can jump on and off, and you don't have to deal with buckling two kids in. Plus it's as easy to maneuver as most single pushchairs.

There is 2yrs 7 months between mine, we also have the pioneer. We just used a buggy board, you can get them with seats but we didn't bother. She was fine and still uses buggy board now at nearly 4 for long walks

There’ll be 2 years 6 months between them when my second is born. I’m planning on using a sling for the baby at first so my eldest can stay in the pram and then will get a buggyboard. Don’t want to have to buy a double!

I've got 19 months between my two, and the youngest is nearly 12 weeks now. I don't intend to go on long outings/full days out on my own, so we bought an umbrella fold buggy, which actually has a higher weight limit than the pushchair from the travel system. If we're on a day trip (after lockdown of course!) then I'll be with DH or other family so we can push one each. I'm not likely to walk more than half an hour on my own so would put baby in the carrier for trips to the library, local shops etc.

I may look into getting a buggy board in a couple of months as baby gets heavier. Plus my childminder has a double buggy I could borrow if needed.

We had one and never used it as a double. Buggy board is perfect at that age and take a sling if you're out all day then baby can be in sling and toddler crash in buggy.

There are two years and 5 months between mine and I thought I could manage with a buggy board but it turned out to be very difficult to use on the long walks we do. In the end I caved in and bought the Mountain Buggy Duet and it was the best thing I ever did. We rarely drive but do go on really long walks, sometimes up to 20km a day if on holiday. We actually used the double until the oldest child was about 5. He is a great walker, even then he could do over 10km, but it was so useful for him to be able to have a rest if needed. I remember getting a couple of judges comments from people about a child that big being in a buggy but I always had a snarky response back at the them as actually he had just walked 10km and just needed a bit of a sit down on the way home!

What buggy board do you have for the pioneer?
Baby no.1 will be 17 months when baby no.2 arrives 😬 and we cant afford to buy a double so a buggy board will have to do!

Himawarigirl · 03/02/2021 16:21

If you use a sling for the baby initially it buys your toddler a bit more time in the buggy. But depends on the child really. My eldest needed the buggy still when she was 2.5 and her brother arrived so I got a secondhand double. It was useful on full day outings even when she was a bit older and would need a nap or get tired. But if the kids had been the other way round we’d have been fine without it, as my second ditched the buggy much earlier. Either way you won’t need it from the second the baby arrives so you can wait and see and maybe get a second hand one.

megletthesecond · 03/02/2021 16:25

Depends how often and how fast you walk.
I kept the double until my eldest started school. There's no fun walking in bad weather with a dawdling, grumpy pre-schooler.

TheBabyAteMyBrain · 03/02/2021 16:26

@KTot93 get one second hand. My city mini double was £75 including the carrycot and adapters. It's been a workhorse and we're about to sell it on again now the eldest is more confident on a buggy board.

I'd always recommend a double buggy, not just for now but when the children are a bit older it's sometimes easier and safer to have them strapped in. Or when the youngest wants to walk and needs the majority of your attention. Plus they are out the rain and cold under a cover if you walk a lot over the winter months.
